Word from South Florida is that Dolphins GM Randy Mueller would like to see what backup QB Cleo Lemon is capable of but that head coach Nick Saban wants to stick with Joey Harrington, who gives Miami the best chance to win right now.

espn insider, whispers from around the nfl wrote that, they're very credible

So would I. However, if you add my opinion to Mueller's opinion, it sum's to irrelevant. Plus, you piss off Joey. And for what, so Lemon can play a game or 2 before Culpepper comes back? Barring an injury, it's not going to happen this week.

If Culpepper is on IR, and the dolphins are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, then Lemon may be the answer.

espn insider is not as credible as they would have you believe.

Remember Nick's rant last week about Mort's 'exclusive insider' info?

They charge for that, so they have to come up with something every week...

Cleo is Muellers 'diamond in the rough.' Im sure meuller does want to see lemon play, although i bet Meuller wanted lemon to play when harrington was looking bad. I can't imagine that Meuller would even suggest putting lemon in after the two games Harrington, and the team, have played.

no point in keeping lemon on the team if we dont know what hes capable of...you have to play him at some point

From Mueller's perspective he traded for a tradeable commodity, and he wants him to be given the chance to flash his talent in front of everyone in a real game so that he can trade the guy away for a better pick. This is the kind of maneuver that makes GMs desirable...so it's perfectly understandable.

I think we just have to be patient. As much as it sucks, injuries do happen. Backup QBs do get into the games, somehow.

Lose a couple more games, then put Lemon in. But not now there is still a slight chance of making the post season.

Lemon is a third stringer, case and point...How many third stringers do you see actually get playing time unless the other two are injured...Keep Lemon on the bench and Joey on the field...Dont ruin a good thing

Right now, and for the last 5 games, Cleo has been a 2nd stringer. And, 2nd stringers play. Every year most 2nd stringers play. Last year Sage Rosenfels played.

I mean yeah there are QBs like Manning, Favre, and Brady that never miss a game...but we'll see. I'm not wishing injury on anyone, but they happen.

3rd stringers are usually trade bait.

I see the fins drafting our 'future' QB before I see Lemon moving from 3rd to 1st on the depth chart...

Yeah I don't think there's anything wrong with Mueller wanting to see what we have in Lemon especially after seeing all the success Tony Romo is having. I think we should stick with Harrington just out of team chemistry aspect, but if it looks like we're out of it, then by all means play Lemon.

How did Cleo Lemon do in the pre-season? I can;t seem to remember....if anything, I believe he did pretty good.

I just don't know if changing QB's at this point is good. If it ain;t broke, don;t fix it....Joey had some horrible overthrows against KC, but that's probably been his worst game....most of the INT's he's thrown haven't been his fault.

Ok, your right, but Lemon is a 2nd stringer due to injury, not capabilty. Last year Sage played because Gus was injured. Joey isnt injured, he is improving and we are winning games, both because of our Offense and our Defense. If Joey gets hurt, that is the only reason Lemon should go in..Dont get me wrong...From what I have seen form the kid I like him and he may be capable. but we are developing chemistry right now and we should screw with that

This was reported by John Clayton the week of the Bears game. Harrington was not looking all that good and if he had continued to struggle, Mueller wanted to see what Lemon could do.

Sounded reasonable to me at the time. Afterall, we would have had no chance at the playoffs and giving Lemon some playing time would not have hurt much.
