Our Miami Dolphins need to run this Offense Run - n - Gun

Did you wear black socks in High school?

If anything I would like to have a Run - N - Gun Offense. This offense is where team lines up in the Shotgun formation all the time and the QB is about 2-3 yards behind the center he either passes it or hands it off to the Half-Back. 3 plays are called Run Left, Run Right, or Pass. The QB has an option to audible at anytime.

The best example of this is the New England Gaytriots and Indianapolis Dolts (copy cat these mother*******)! Seriously!!!!

Run left, run right, or pass?! Seriously?! That is every formation.

The Colts/Pats have Manning/Brady... It doesn't matter what formation they do, they will still make plays.

HB draws have no business in Miami, with no QB defenses respect and a weak performance from our O-Line and RB's, they would only result in 2-3 yard losses to a 1-2 yard gain. Unless it is our typical 3rd and long and we are backed up near our goal line, then this conservative play might get us 5-6 yards before we punt (which actually is a good call given who our QB was).

Running draws or alternatively throwing 15+ yard passes will only end up in more 3-n-outs...

While I do agree that we need a DRASTIC change on offense, this is certainly not the right approach especially to use it as frequently as you suggest. For so long I was trying to figure out if it was Henne or Henning that was the problem. Needless to say the answer was both, Henne made horrible mental errors, wasted time outs (AT HOME!), could never roll out of the pocket, and constantly went to the check-down receiver (mostly the running back). While part of the check-down tendency/design was invoked by Henning, Henne would still stare down a check down receiver! They are there as a last result when nobody is open and you need to get the ball off, how the hell do you stare down your last resort?! As far as Henning goes, our play calls still sucked with Thigpen and his tendency to call run plays when throwing was neccessary and throw plays when running was neccessary.

The Run-n-Gun was used in the 90's when defenses were big but not fast and has more recently developed into the Spread offense to counter quicker faster defensive players and DC's using more and more blitz/zone blitz packages. The Run-n-Gun doesn't have an emphasis on the running game (like the new Spread offense does) with the RB usually in a pass route and the RnG doesn't have the proper personnel (TE or FB) to pick up blitzes. Even if one were to keep the RB in the backfield for extra blocking, the RnG requires the QB to take 5-7 step drops to read the WR's option routes which leads to the QB to holding on to the ball too long in today's NFL and makes the RB to actually take on and block a much larger and stronger defensive player as opposed to a RB's usual cut block which is only effective on short drops.

Also if you thought you saw a lot of drives stall in favor of FG's last year, the Run-n-Gun is even less effective in the red zone with not enough space to create and get open.

In short, the Run-n-Gun is dead. No thanks.

*Henne can't even read through his progressions in a normal offense, can you imagine him trying to make decisions with all 3-4 WR's running option routes.

U mean like the old Oilers offense w/Warren Moon or Buffalo's K-Gun? Thanks but no thanks. Those offenses don't work in Dec & Jan. All this talk about changing the offense is BS. I bet u no one would be complaining if 3 yds & a cloud of dust resulted in winning. I would rather have a boring, dull win than a flashy, exciting loss. Just saying.

Actually, I would say we are closer to having a QB to do a run and shoot type thing than we are to having a o-line, RB, and maybe TE to play it.

A Run-n-Gun offense does not use a TE or FB in their personnel packages, rendering both Polite and Fasano obsolete. And Although they both had sub-par years, not having a TE in the NFL these days to take advantage of mismatches is not good strategy.
