Our New OL Coach

Been watching ESPN all night, didnt see anything on the scroll.

Update, no need to watch ESPN. The Miami Herald has confirmed it.

Just one day after Dolphins coach Tony Sparano accepted the daunting task of reconstructing a dismal team, the man had already hired an offensive line coach and interviewed another candidate for the wide receivers assistant job.

Longtime assistant Mike Maser was hired Thursday to oversee the line, no doubt one of the most important hirings on Sparano's list since that's the position Miami's new boss coached last season in Dallas.

Thanks for the link, good to see some this coaching staff starting to get hired.

I wonder if this hire will mean that we will give OT Jordan Gross a long look during free agency this year..

Jordan Gross is a right tackle, which I think Vernon Carey is more suited to play for us. I hope LT Travelle Wharton becomes our left tackle because he is a free agent too.

BUT....

I wouldn't mind Gross either

I guess it is all going to depend on how our coaching staff feels what Carey's best position is; LT or RT. Either way, we can't go wrong with Gross or Wharton.

OR, Carey at RG, which I think is an even better position for him, Gross at RT and ? at LT; maybe Jake Long, though many question whether he is a LT in this league, maybe a 2nd rounder, like a Chris Williams or Gosder Cherilus (note the BC link), or a perhaps a veteran free agent like even Wharton. Depends how much we spend in FA, and whether OL will be a big point of emphasis. I have no qualms about letting Rex go, and giving his money to one of the Carolina tackles, and then moving Vernon inside. None at all.

Anyone has info on the new OL coach?

He has 22 years of experience at the collegiate level.
He's been an O-Line coach in the NFL for 12 seasons most recently with the Panthers. While he was coaching at Carolina, the O-Line produced five of the highest rushing totals in team history and four of the lowest sack totals. They went to the NFC title game twice in those years, and once to the Super Bowl.

He also helped develop left tackle Tony Boselli and right tackle Leon Searcy.

I think he's a great hire and will be a good replacement for Houck not to mention the O-line will be heavily influenced by Sparano as well.
