Two years ago our offensive line could not protect the quarterback or create holes for the runningback. This year we do not have to worry about that. Our success among the offensive line will come from Hudson Houck. Last year I was throughly impressed from the improvement in the offensive line. Never before did I think a good offensive line coach could make so much of a difference. I expect for us to improve even more this season among the offensive line. We added Shelton to the left side of the offensive line. Shelton is not a great player but he is an upgrade over what we had before. We also drafted a very talented player in Toledo. I have read a lot of reports about him and it seems that he has a lot of potential. I would not be suprised to see him get a substantial amount of playing time this season. Pearson the RT we got from Jacksonville is also a nice addition.

At this point, I am really confident in the players we have among of the offensive line. Our offensive line last year was quite good. I would not go as far as saying it was great. But if we continue our success we had last year, this could be a top offensive line in this league. I might be going out of limb by saying that but Hudson Houck has enough talent to work with. He has transformed lines with minimal talent throughout his coaching career. Hudson should not have much problems doing that here.

Finally I would like to make a prediction on what our offensive line will look like. Hudson has said all along that he will put the best 5 offensive linemen on the line. If that is true here is my prediction on the starting 5 offensive linemen.

LT-Shelton
LG-James
C-Hadnot
RG-DMac
RT-Carey

another possible scenerio would be to have Carey play at RG and Dmac to play RT. I am not sure if I like that idea considering that Carey had a lot of success last year at RT. I am not sure if DMac has ever played guard but I see him starting because he is one of the top offensive linemen on this team. I am sure it would not be hard from him making the conversion from LT to the guard position

Good post.....I agree.
Our OL will improve even more this year...
I doubt DMac will play G however...
Maybe Carey......but I'd like to see him continue to blossom at RT. Only if he strugles at RT, move him to RG.

good post.

I think our OL can improve greatly this year. I don't know about one of the top in the league, but they can definatlely top 10.

Agree, good post. Last year our OL was 4th in the league with less talent and this is Houck's second year in control. We should do very well this year, and we'll need that to protect DC's knees and get Ronnie the running room he needs.

In Saban We Trust!

Nice post.

You should add that the addition of D.Culpepper and fullback F.Beasley will help the O-line have an easier time keeping defenders modest, and the offense more productive. Less sacks, more holes to run through the "junk" is gonna be fun to watch.

Lets hope everyone can stay healthy!

Exactly the points I was gonna make. With C-Pep and his arm, with Beasley blocking for Ronnie and Ronnie doing his thing, it will all go hand in hand in helping the O-Line. The defenses can't take as many chances, they can't stack the box, or they will get hurt. The more productive the Offense as a whole along with a strong armed smart quarterback, automatically helps the offensive line alone. I too am looking forward to them being an asset and not a liability.

Good post finsgonewild & I agree with your lineup:
LT-Shelton
LG-James
C-Hadnot
RG-DMac
RT-Carey
Or maybe one of our new additions at RG. I just don't want seth starting. I think he's strictly a backup at this level.

Houck may even be able to churn out a few ProBowlers in time!!! Thats just what he does.
I think the 1st team lineup they have right now will stick al the way into the reg. season.

Shelton
James
McKinney
Hadnot
Carey.............. if not... Hadnot and Carey could slide over 1 spot to the left and DMac or Pearson could play RT.

This is what I would like to see. I think Toledo could be like an Alan ***gaca form the Steelers for us. Being that he used to be a Tight End...he can get out in front on some counters or sweep plays. I would save DMAC and Pearson for good depth and experienced backup OT.

Yes the OL made strides but don't be fooled. The offense was still limited due to the OL. They pulled the TE's in to block more and didn't throw deep as much as the season wore on. Hence why you see Welker, McMicheals numbers suffer large in the 2nd half of the season. Although that is also what makes Chambers break out so much better is that the team was running a lot of max protect and Chambers was still able to break out.

The goal now is to get that improved performance where they can run more 3 WR sets and allow McMicheal to get back into the passing game.

what does everyone think about ronnie with a fullback, maybe he run's better without, someone put up some stats about ronnie running behind a fullback,it wasn't pretty, to me his style would suit I back formation.

tru.. but who the hell was our FB last year... We had the guy from seattle who went to NE (forgot his name already) & Barnes. We used Ronnie with Randy or Ricky in the backfield quite often.

The dude from Seattle was Heath Evans. I remember when he signed with New England after we released him and he played exceptioniall well.
