Our owner is one slick cat....

I agree it is very unlikely that 2007 will remain without a cap, but there does seem to be a lot of speculation that some teams and I guess possibly the PA would be fine with one crazy uncapped year in 2007 to serve as sort of a reset for those teams who have screwed up their caps. I disagree with that as a good solution because it would seem to penalize those teams who have been smart about things, but it could certainly happen if both sides are okay with it. That said, football would never decide to get rid of the cap long term. It really would ruin the sport.

People might hate me for saying this, but I think if we loose the salary cap football will be ruined. People will start doing like the Yankees and buying championships. That's no fun.

:yeahthat:

I'm listening to Sirius NFL radio right now and they were interviewing a guy who is close to Saban. They were talking about how Wayne courted Saban into taking the job. He said that Saban was leaning heavily on staying with LSU because that's where he planned to be for a while, LSU is expected to have a good team next year, etc.

The story goes as Wayne and Eddie were leaving, Wayne handed Saban an envelope and told Saban, well... if you decide to take the job, here is something nice for your wife to use to buy some new home furnishings. (Inside the envelope was a nice check... i don't know how much but it played a significant part in Saban making his decision.)

All praise Wayne... NFL DEAL MAKER!!!

waynes one rich dude!

Speaking as a Yanks fans......we lost in the ALCS, so imo, that argument is not all that valid. I mean.....if we won last season, and year before, then I can understand. (btw, we will win it all this season!!!) :D  :D

If you really want to make a deal, do what Detroit does by abducting FA's from the airport or before then and force them to sign something. Tie em and their agent to a chair or something like that. lol

As a Red Sox fan, I have mixed tidings for you here.

1) It's not just the Yankees. There are a few other high payroll teams that ruin baseball. The Red Sox are one of them, but they have to do so or risk that the Yankees really will just buy every championship.

2) The effect really is overstated. Only about half of the teams are really as bad off as they claim to be. The others are owned by cheapskates like the guy who is now commisssioner (though he no longer personally owns the Brewers).

I'm not saying the Yanks can literally buy a championship. Obviously the World Series vs. the Marlins showed that you can't actually buy a championship. But you can buy every big-name player on the market. This puts you in the playoffs every year (almost) guaranteed. If the over paid team can't come through with the big win, that their fault.

They way I put it is: The yanks can buy the most expensive team in baseball... But you can't buy heart.

Anyway, I'll take this to the general sports forum. Let's get back to football.

I think they should add about 4-6 million onto the cap.
That might not actually make things better. It might just mean that some players will get larger contracts then they would have.

Wayne rules! Getting Saban, allowing him to pursue high priced coaches and the pending stadium improvements are huge. I know people have not liked Wayne in the past but I have always felt that he is an awesome owner. I hope the fans appreciate what they have with him. Look at some of the idiots who own teams.

*Que Godfather theme music

I'm not sure if this comment was made as a half joke or just a joke. Anyone know where and how Wayne made his coin?

Waste management. Chicago. Now start the Godfather music.

Thats what I say whenever anyone bitches about my Yankees "buying" championships.

Definately, that would be horrible for football...we don't want another NY Yankees...

I agree... unless WE became the NFL version of the Yankees... then it's all good!!!
