Can anyone here explain to me what in the world happened to our pass D last night?

TD Matt Jones, 50 Yd pass from Byron Leftwich (Seth Marler kick is good), 6:48. Drive: 3 plays, 62 yards in 1:37.

TD Chad Owens, 62 Yd pass from David Garrard (Seth Marler kick is good), 5:32. Drive: 6 plays, 87 yards in 2:30.

TD Maurice Drew, 55 Yd pass from David Garrard (Seth Marler kick is good), 9:25. Drive: 10 plays, 98 yards in 5:25.

TD George Wrighster, 51 Yd pass from Quinn Gray (Seth Marler kick is good), 3:47. Drive: 5 plays, 69 yards in 2:55.

4 td's over 50 yards.....I know our 2nd and 3rd string were in for those but come on this can't be allowed to happen.

The blitz was countered, and nobody was in coverage. It was like a 10 yard screen pass, turned into a 50+yard TD. Nobody was in the secondary, and those who tried to make a play, were basically run over when they tried to make a tackle. It was very ugly on those particular plays. I counted two TD's that were almost identical in that way....

The other long one came when Gerrard rolled out, set up, and launched a deep rocket over the secondary where a WR had broken free behind them. Easy TD....

Leftwich hit a deep pass where W. Allen was like 10 yards {behind the WR}, and still missed the tackle when he had the chance. That was the only deep completion where most of our first string defense was on the field. It was like a 52 yarder....

All in all, bad coverage due to bad packages / missed assignments in my opinion....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

As long as these mistakes are fixed by the opener than it's all good. Hopefully they will learn from their mistakes.

Our Pass defense or lack thereof for lack of a better term, will be a problem for a short time.

For me this has been a concern since the begining of the offseason, based on my understanding of defense's especially secondary play, a lot of what is done is based on the scheme, but ultimately a trust factor comes into play.

Meaning if a corner is responsible for a small portion of the field, he let's the wr run by, because the safety is supposed to maintain converage for the deep ball, it appears that that didn't happen last night, and to be expected.

WE REPLACED OUR ENTIRE SECONDARY, we are going to have issues to start the preseason and early season.

It's important in the first 6 to 8 games that we get good pressure on the QB hopefully by sending just 4, if we can get pressure we can prevent what happened last night , otherwise what we saw last night might be an issue for the first month of the season.

this is Just a minor concern, also Daniels didn't play, its only preseason, I will watch the replay tonight on the NFL channel, but I am not surprised at all, it will take some time for these guys to jell.

With Daniels coming back and hopefully Jason Allen stepping up and starting we already have improved our Defensive backfield by 50%.
