The rebuild the Cowboys pulled off after hiring Jimmy Johnson and then trading Herschel Walker for a kings ransom in draft picks.

Miami acquired their picks through more than just one trade mega-trade, but aside from that, I really think this is the closest thing we’ve seen to a team committing to a full-blown rebuild and set forth hell bent on acquiring as many draft picks as possible.

We saw Dallas turn all of those extra picks into the most dominant O-line in NFL history, a rock solid Defense, and eventually, 3 Super Bowl titles. We’re already seeing that Miami made the right pick at QB with their own pick (much like Dallas did with Aikman), and as of now it looks like Miami hit it out of the park on the O-line, drafting 3 guys that look the part of long term O-Line anchors.

So far, it looks like Miami’s rebuild is ahead of schedule when compared to Dallas’, and that’s probably due to Miami being pretty active in the Free Agent market, and hitting on a few key pieces. Jones, Van Noy, Ogbah and Lawson have all been great and their additions are why Miami is currently not only in the hunt for a playoff birth, but the AFC East title as well.

I’m 43, and I know the older members will agree with me that it’s been a mighty long time since Miami’s been in a position of strength like this. The fact that the Dolphins are already THIS good, and might possibly be picking in the Top 5 in the 1st and 2nd rounds in the 2021 draft is mind-boggling and should be very concerning to the rest of the NFL and especially the AFC East. We have the opportunity to add 4 of the top 50 prospects this offseason to a roster that is already young, talented, and already learning how to win.

If you can’t remember the future this bright, it’s because it’s probably been since 83-84 that there was this much positive momentum behind the Miami Dolphins. I hope you guys are enjoying this, because I sure as hell am. It’s good to be back baby!

Just happy we are competing and making adjustments that put us in positions to win games. We are far beyond what I expected this season. Pretty pumped about the direction we are headed. Pretty cool, right? Winning is a welcome change.

Great Post!!! I'm old enough to remember the Rise of the Dolphins and Steelers of the 70's. And the Rise of the 49ers, Cowboys and Giants of the 80's. They all have a few things in common. 1) each had great coaches 2) they all drafted well, with one or more drafts setting up the foundation. And lastly they had the franchise QB.

Yes... agreed... this rebuild is very like that of the Cowboys. Very few times in the NFL's history has a team been torn down to the very foundation like we've done here. The only one's who could do this are a brand new GM/Coach combination working for an owner who has signed off on the demolition.
I remember the Cowboy jokes the year that they tore it down. The conventional wisdom was that the Cowboys had lost their freaking minds... and then the wins started, and the detractors got very quiet.
It is quite a powerful thing for a coach/GM combination to create a team that has EXACTLY the type of players that they want...

Hmmm......

Simms? Hostettler?

Neither of those are "franchise" QBs, IMO.

I dunno. I've seen people claim, because Tua has pedestrian stats and Miami is winning, that the only important stat is wins.

Hostetler's career winning percentage is better than Marino's.

Well I've never seen anyone claim Hos was a franchise guy.

Maybe your definition of "franchise" is different than mine.

Perhaps using "Franchise" was a bit of an over play. But I think they were excellent QB's for those teams and at that point in NFL history. It worked for them.

Don't get me wrong. I liked those Parcels teams, though I also liked the 49ers of that era. That Roger Craig fumble about broke my heart.

I just think the defense is what carried the Giants. They weren't winning any shootouts.
