One thing that I have noticed about our receivers is that the do not come back to the ball and they do not catch the ball with their hands. OJ McDuffie said a couple of weeks ago that Chambers could be great if he would learn to catch with his hands and not let the ball come all the way to his body. I think that OJ is right...if you catch with your hands, and not your body, you are in a much better position to succeed. You go after the ball and get more catches and more defensive penalties.

agree with all of you. If you haven't notcied, chad johnson, owens, rice, moss, gates, gonzales, all teh good/great receivers/te in teh league go AFTER teh ball they dotn let it come to them. our wr let the ball coem to them. we DOOOO NNNEEED another WR that is VERY GOOD n better then chambers but i think with a very good qb, off line gets improvement, and our deff. we can get by with that untill the following year in 07.

I think Chambers gets unfair treatment on this board. I am in no way saying he is a top 10 WR, but he is pretty good. And if you watch Chambers on his routes, you will notice Frerotte barely looks to him, but when he does they usually connect. The playcalling and QB are in no way reciever friendly and thats why I think he never has big years. Yes he drops some. But he has also made a lot of big plays for us. How people say he is overrated completely boggles my mind. I never hear his name on ESPN or talked about as a top reciever... he gets the recognition that his stats produce, and thats what he should get. Chambers is the best reciever on our team, hands down.

I agree with you...he is the best receiver on the team. Also, I never said he was over or under rated. I was just making a comment that our receivers do not catch the ball out front with their hands... they wait until it comes in to their body.

Sorry if I offended you.

It isn't that Chambers doesn't do that, it's that he is inconsistent in doing it. Plus, having a receiver in position all the time where he is waiting for the ball to get to his body is almost always a sign of a QB who is throwing the ball to him just a little bit late.

Easy for OJ McDuffie to talk, he had Marino throwing the ball to him. Marino's timing was impeccable AND he threw the ball accurately.

Got to disagree with your logic. It does not matter who is throwing the ball...the receiver should go after the ball, not let the ball come to them. Jerry Rice used to catch bricks to learn to catch with his hands...I think he did OK.

Well, if our QB's would get the ball to them so they wouldn't have to come back to the ball it would take care of this problem.

we need to stop blaming the receivers too much. i dont understand why a lot of ppl on the board are so willing to give frerotte the benefit of the doubt because they always make excuses for him, but the recievers dont light things up, and its their heads..it goes both ways, gus isnt thowing well, he oline has been average, and these guys cant do much after that. you wana know when chambers is gona have a break out year? ill tell you...its when hes not being thrown to by guys named fiedler, feeley, and frerotte.

nah man you didn't offend me, I wasn't talking to you in general, I just picked your thread to rant in because it was about the recievers.

I think fans a very frustrated with the passing game and rightly so. Let's face it, an inaccurate pass to a wide open receiver is frustrating and we see that and of course remember it. A nice pass that is dropped is also very frustrating. We also have to deal with that, what seems to be too often. Bottom line the QB play must improve, but the WR's have to improve also.

Believe me...I am NOT giving Freotte the benefit of the doubt. I realize that I'm a little older than move of the people on this post, but one of the reasons that Marino was so great was that his receivers BELIEVED that that ball was theirs! Clayton used to go up and take the ball away from the defensive back. Duper would out run most, but he still would catch the ball before if got to his body. Nat Moore, one of my personal favs, would catch the ball ahead of himself and just make great plays. OJ always caught the ball ahead of his body.

I personally think that Marino made a better halftime throw to Duper today that ANY pass that Gus could ever throw...but Gus would look much better if the receiver went after the ball.

Also Marty Booker catches the ball with his hands. I don't think we go to him enough.

You are exactly right. Vick looked like all-world today. Vick was under pressure and completed...what 75 percent of his passees? Our QB had no pressure and could not hit a wide open McMike for the TD. I still think the Gus can help the team...but he has to stop pushing so hard and just hit the wide open guy!
