Our Scouting Department

I was reading CK's draft comparisons thread I wondered what our scouting department is like. I know that Saban has the final say and that Mueler will have more imput as time goes on and the players that Saban has coached against are absorbed into the pro ranks. My question is, does anyone know anything about our scouting department? Is it reputed to be a good group? Also in general terms how much does a GM rely on the scouts and how much does he actually scout players himself? I havnt seen much on how the actual process works so any observations would be welcome.
