I know we addressed the secondary in the draft but I think it is unrealistic to expect these guys be great or even good out the gate. It will be a work in progress as the season goes on. I think teams will pick on us a lot and don't know if we can do anything to stop it!

with solid veterans like Gibril Wilson and Yeremiah Bell....I'm not worried about it. We have upgraded since last season

Its been like that for a long time and until our pass rush can become consistant, dont expect our secondary to perform up 2 par until this happens.

I expect Vontae to impress during training camp and the preseason and start. He may not be a Pro Bowler, but the guy has the physical tools to be a top 20 CB in the league this year. Eric Green will be a decent 3rd or 4th CB and Smith should see the field alot. Personally I am excited about our secondary this year.

Pass rush will be the key to stopping the pass. Jason is bacl now, I don't expect him to be All-Pro, but I do expect him to put pressure on opposing QBs, mostly Brady.

What makes you believe that..We have a couple of above average solid safeties. Will Allen is back.

There are 3 players competing for the other corner spot. Competetion bring out the best out of players. You know whoever wins the job will play well.

With that said, there are no DLine rookies this year. And JT is back.

We should have a better passrush this year which will help out the DBs.

Yes it will take time for the rookies to adjust to the NFL game, but you can't sit there and say we are not better in the secondary right now then we were at the end of last season. We return Bell and Allen, who are two Pro Bowl caliber players. Gibril Wilson is a definite upgrade over Hill, so really the only question mark is the other cornerback position.

Goodman played great last year, and it definitely was a shot when he left in free agency. However, it is not like we made only one move to try and replace him. There is a three way competition right now between Eric Green, Vontae Daivs and Sean Smith for that job. It may be unrealistic to expect any of them to step right in and dominate from day one, but it is realistic to think that at least one of them and possibly all of them will be good enough to do an OK job out of the gate.

Vontae Davis and Sean Smith definitely have the talent and skill to be much better pros then Andre Goodman. It might not show on day one of their rookie season, but it the long run, they were major upgrades.

I think we will be fine in the secondary, because we return our best two secondary players, we upgraded the safety position, added some real good young talent at cornerback and safety, and we have one of the best secondary coaches in the league in Todd Bowles. Not only that, the additions of Tony McDaniels, Jason Taylor and Cameron Wake, the continued development of Matt Roth will help improve the pass rush which will help take pressure off the secondary.

I am not all that worried. I am actually very excited about the secondary, because we finally have some serious talent. Like you said, it may be a work in progress with the young guys, but I do believe it is a strength on this team, not a weakness.

I might feel that way if Sean Smith were not looking so good so early, and I know its still way early but Smith will come on faster than most IMO because of his skill set.

I would also feel that way if vontae were a schmoe like rumours were on him. I see a guy who is learning everything as fast as he can and the difference between what we had last year and what we have this year is that we have more sure starters for the future.

I see a defense that will be better in the pass rush and coverage but the biggest upgrade IMO will be on special teams.

Not worried...

Davis, Smith & Wilson are all upgrades from last season. So we will do better, it may take them a few seasons to be threats to pass at...but not many come in and dominate!

you could not say it any better, I also see Sean Smith doing a lot too.

Very excited to see a much improved secondary. We really have the potential to be a top ten Defense once again. Get excited Guys!!!

Very good point. I really think our D can be great this year as well. Top 10 is very realistic, but a lot will ride on the production we get out of our NT spot. If Fergie can stay healthy I expect him to have another solid year. If he goes down, we will need someone to play just as good as Fergie in order for our D to have any success

Just keep in mind, we upgraded our secondary AND our pass rush tremendously, and usually you don't even have to have a good secondary if your pass rush is intense. If we end up having both an intense pass rush and a great secondary, this will be a very, very scary defene

sorry man i really disagree. I think when alls said and done we will be in the top 10 in pass D. Im more worried about us stopping the run honestly. Wilsons a vet, and weve got great competition at the cb position, regardless of whos gunna be our second cb.
