I just haven't really heard a lot of talk about our secondary lately. Brent Grimes is a given...but we had a lot of ?'s going into camp and were at the end of preseason now. How is this all going to play out as far as playing time?

Cortland Finnegan - has he shown that he might reestablish himself as a great corner this year? I don't remember hearing much about him at all in camp...and I don't recall seeing him making any big plays during preseason either. whats the deal with him?

Jamar Taylor - there was a lot of debate about him during the off-season. when nfl.com was talking about he thought about retiring people were questioning his will and doubted he would live up to the hype of his 2nd round draft selection. I had talked to him through social media and he said that was all BS and he would show everybody this year...well has he so far? I was impressed the other night...he did allow that TD though. What do you guys think?

Will Davis - I've seen him make a couple plays during preseason...but again, never really heard much talk during camps, and nothing hes done stands out to me big time.

Louis Delmas - Other than the Cowboys game, which he was hawking around all night and impressed me...never heard much of him progressing either.

So hows these guys doing? Any news? Any opinions?

Prob look like this:

Grimes and Finnegan are starters with Finnegan being bumped inside to nickel packages. Taylor and Davis are battling it out to play the boundary on nickel packages but I think most would say they are looking decent.

The Dolphins have had a pretty good run of luck with CB's since Ireland arrived an it seems to be continuing. Hickey's high priced gambles on older injury prone secondary guys like Finnegan and Delmas seem to be working out ... so far.

The medical issue with Taylor really worries me. If he break into the starting lineup he may become a player like we ad in Dmitri Patterson--good but unreliable because of health. Anti-inflammatories are common in the NFL season ... and not being able to use them is a real problem.

But fortunately for the Dolphins, Will Davis is one of our most improved players this offseason (Dion Sims being the other). If he can avoid being burned a lot for deep throws, his play making will be a huge boost to a generally decent secondary. Grimes is our only truly exceptional player, but we have decent talent at all positions for the time being (health holding out).

Taylor looked real good on Saturday, especially his tackling ability. I knew he was a cover guy but didn't realize he was such a willing and sure tackler either. Did he allow a TD, yea, but let's be clear, the entire play was pretty much undefendable in today's NFL. Tall WR, a perfect throw (it wasn't long, Taylor grabbed the WR) and a great catch. I don't even consider that a bad play for him . . . it happens.

Grimes pretty much in mid season form. A guy like Dez should be torching his short ass but man does this guy battle and also a great tackler. He's like a rich man's version of Will Allen (former Dolphins).

Finnegan has looked good also . . . loved the battle between him and Dez in the 2nd quarter. The fact that you can throw him on an elite WR and feel comfortable is a really good thing. Grimes can do his thing, but when you get those physical guys like Dez, AJ, Julio, etc. It's good to have a guy with a little more size to switch off on those WRs. Also some really nice tackles in this game.

Davis has been near the ball, just like usual, and he also has looked quite improved as a tackler. I mean he looked good last preseason also, but the big knock in college on him was his over aggressiveness and you saw how easily the double move can burn him. We won't fully know if he has fully taken those steps but I'm excited for Davis because he's a ball hawk, plain and simple.

The 2 youngsters are the reason we can afford to move Jimmy to FS while Reshad is out. Jimmy was absolutely fantastic as the nickel last year so it's not something I'm happy with but I feel I've seen some things to make me more comfortable, for now.

Has it ever been confirmed that Jamar can never use anti-inflammatories again, or that he couldn't use them just when rehabbing from last season's injury because his kidney's were still damaged?

I've never seen it categorically stated that he can never again touch anti-inflammatories. But I may have missed it somewhere.

so far Grimes has looked pretty good, not allowing anything behind him other than that TD, which really was pretty good coverage, just a better throw.

Finnegan I haven't seen a lot of which I guess is a good thing. He's made some good tackles and looks healthy so that's good. He's the #2 right now.

Taylor looks pretty good. I don't see him making many INT's but he seems to be more consistent than....

Will Davis. He is still very succeptable to double moves which scares me a lot. You can bet if he gets on the field in week 1 that they are gonna double move his ass immediately so he better be ready, Brady won't miss if he bites. He has good ball hawking ability but I fear too much of it is because he takes such big risks. I think Taylor is more ready and I would play him over Davis for that sole reason.
