Todays win made me so happy, but it also showed who will be on this team in the future and who won't.
Sorry, Peezy will be gone REALLY soon, we have some pass rushers who are way less expensive who are out producing him. I love him, especially last year, but he is getting old and isn't making plays.
Wake and Starks on the other hand are playing like they want to prove something. Clearly two cornerstones of our defense for years to come
Channing Crowder also...you are gone soon too buddy. Sure he made a play when a ball was thrown right into his gut, but come on...he didn't "make the play" It's like a cop walking around a corner and bumping into a guy running with a stolen car stereo in his hands. He caught the ball, but does anyone honestly think that the play was made by him and not Wake? Didn't think so. Ayodele and Torbor are alright, and Anderson has looked good with limited reps. A LB stud in the draft or through FA and Crowder is gone.
I say we keep JT for at least another year if not longer. He is the kind of player we want. Cheap, motivated, and a great character guy to support our young talent. He clearly still has something left in the tank, and he has always been one of the smartest on the field.
As for our secondary, Allen might need to be upgraded through FA or lose his number one starter job to Davis who is clearly making plays. Yes, Davis has been burned on occasion, but he makes plays in critical situations. I think we are all looking for people in the secondary that can make plays. Getting burned as a rookie doesnt concern me too much, and he has been improving. Smith on the other hand is still an unfinished product. All the physical tools, but he is gonna need some time to develop. He should be our number 3 or 4 corner until he develops. Still too early to judge on him.
Say what you want but I love Yeremiah Bell, but he needs to be paired with a safety who can cover, not one that just tackles. Unfortunately, Wilson can do neither of the aforementioned, don't expect to see him on the team next year (at least I hope).
This offensive line is probably the best and most consistent performing unit on this team, if it ain't broke don't fix it!
Now with the backs, Ronnie is a critical part of this offense, and so is the Wildcat. I really don't want to lose him, but his proneness to injuries is a problem. I believe other teams will be hesitant to give him a big contract because of this reason so we may not get raked over the coles with how much we will have to pay him come extention time. Cobbs is a perfect 3rd down back/reciever and I hope we keep him, too bad he got injured. Ricky will end his career as a Dolphin, obviously he still has something. Lex looks decent, but if we are looking toward the future I can't see a back like him taking over Ricky's role permanently. I think we need to eventually draft a quick and powerful back to take Ricky's role. Lou is a monster...nuff said.
Obviously the tight ends aren't flashy, but I like Fasano. I think he had trouble adjusting to Henne's ball compared to the floaters he had thrown to him last year, but do not give up on him just yet, he is a good player. Haynos provides quality depth obviously.
Our recieving corps, I believe is missing one player and that is a true number one. Ginn as we all know is not a number one, in fact as a reciever he is probably the fourth best on this team. We should look in FA or draft at a true number one. Bess is a welker type quick and shifty reciever with great hands, but does not really stretch the field. Cam is a great posession reciever, but again those should be our number 2 and 3, with Hartline splitting time because he is money also. We are simply missing that one difference making reciever (the fitz, marshall, johnsons, boldin etc) type reciever that gives defenses fits. I have seen calls for Bowe and Boldin most commonly, and honestly I would LOVE LOVE LOVE Boldin. Bowe would be a huge upgrade as well. The price they would command...probably not worth it. We need to draft one and BADLY. This offense has no big play threat really, I only remember one huge play and that was against the Jets with the ted ginn play action down the middle. Bottom line, we need big plays.
Our ST is much improved especially in kick/punt coverage. Most importantly we have a kicker who is freaking MONEY. We need to lock him up...right now. I would hate to be in washington or baltimore or even houston where the games are lost because of the kicker. When you have someone like Dan who is clutch, you gotta lock him up.
Now, the most important position in the game is finally looking like it isn't a problem for the first time in a long time. Henne is young, poised, has a cannon, and most importantly is that when the game is on the line he is MONEY. He is bound to have some bad games like the Buffalo game, but when it matters, he wins it for us. I can't begin to describe how important this is. I have never seen him get rattled, it's amazing. I was so wrong about him, and I'm glad I was. Sure, he needs to work on his deep ball and the touch passes, but he is young and raw. These things can be taught. He is absolutely incredible for being a first year starter. The team is also now scoring points. I can't remember the last time this team scored this many points per game. Sure, all of it isn't because of Henne, but he is certainly a big part of it. I would say we have our QB of the future. The Pat White experiment is something that the coaching staff needs to tweak in the offseason. Shut it down or decrease it for the rest of this year and either work hard at it or scrap is and keep him as a backup. I like Pat White, I just don't think we put him in great positions to be successful, and usually at the wrong time like when we are on a roll with Henne passing, then we take him out. I hate the lapses in momentum.
So we may make the playoffs, we may not. This team is a borderline mediocre and good team, they are headed in the right directions. Some minor changes need to be made and positions need to be upgraded. Overall, I am happy with the state of affairs in Miami, and am looking forward to a bright future!
