Since 1976 I've been pulling for these guys. Inherited them from my father.

That's a lot of bleeding over the past 20 years. My first 20 years with them was pretty damned good.

Like a lot of you, I have felt the rage, frustration, depression. Have asked, What has happened to my team? How did a once mighty superpower fall so hard, so long ago, and still has not risen?

And, like you, my liver is in shambles this time of year.

But this year will be different. Not because of wins, players performing, etc. Last month I had a game changer.

As some of you saw on a previous post, I got to hang with Vern Den Herder last month. And I came away with a different, less frantic view of Miami.

Rather than pound a pre game 12 pack to prepare for the suffering, I'm just gonna kick back this season. Relax. Not stress out. Ive been stressing out for decades, even when we were awesome.

But Vern really put it in perspective. Let's face it: The Dolphins are our team, win or lose, rock or suck. Doesn't matter. And they always will be. The ruination of the week following a loss just isn't worth it. The elation of a win is, heh heh.

So this season, for the first time, I simply have no expectations. I'm just gonna kick back and enjoy the season. They may win. Sweet. They may lose. ****. But, as Vern said, we'll just have to wait and see.

Having said all that, I want to see them play for real. Win or lose. And I want to see them remember what they were.

And I'd be good with that.

So hang onto your shorts, boys. ****'s about to get real.

Lay 'em out, Miami.

Well said sir, here's hoping for a fun season!

I think I will take your advice. I inherited my loyalty from dad as well about the same time you did. It was awesome growing up in the Shula era as we were always in the mix it seemed. The last 20 have been brutal, so bad that neither of my sons even watch the NFL now and trying to get them excited about a crappy Dolphins team when they were young was impossible. My dad doesn't even pay attention to them anymore either! So I too will go into this season with NO expectations and just try to enjoy the ride..... Yea right! LOL

i agree with the unspoken premise of your thread - the Dolphins have had no pride for decades...

I have been ranting about it for years...

Gase has pride - he is not playing games here - he means business.

He needs a few drafts -

What we have invested so far has not been about mortgaging our future....

This team will be fine and win some games that no-one thinks we have any business winning...

Seattle will be in a fight for their lives week one...

I want to see us play with some pride!

Great expectations not quite panning out?!? Sounds familiar.

I usually end up as disappointed as her:

That's probably good advice. Since my son's been into football I've been telling him it's okay to root for different teams or just be a general fan. It's hard being a fan of one team with the highs and lows. That said I feel the highs are going to return to Miami and that will be sweet. I have a good feeling about Adam Gase.
