Over the Cap Next Year

Are we really going to be this bad?

21 million over?

Plus maybe OV longterm deal as well.

But Nah . . . expect guys to either be cut or restructured. Grimes/Wake stick out.

Also expect some movement on the Ryan Tannehill number. Plus expect us to roll over some cap as well from this year. Dion Jordan number will be adjusted. Earl Mitchell could be in trouble if the youngsters step up. We could extend Jordan Cameron long term if he has a great year which would severly reduce his cap number.

It looks bad now . . . . but we'll be fine. Need young guys to play well this year.

Truth is, when you sign the deals you sign, the cap is gonna be less free. Winning makes that much less visible.

that is not accurate, three things...
1) Phillip Wheeler's contract is still counted until June 1.
2) that number is based on the cap staying flat to this year, everyone is predicting it will be at least $150m.
3) doesn't include roll over from this year, we are currently around $12m under with Wheeler and Jordan factored in

to my best guess we are $6.5m over next year. with potentially $10m in roll over money my guess we could be looking at $3m under next season.

I use to worry about things like this but with the bean counters we have now they will figure it out. They may use smoke and mirrors but after the salary dump this year I have no worries at all.
Masterful job so far this year.

The Wheeler deal will free up $3M this year to cover the draft but, not next year.

Remember that before the start of FA, we were going to be cap strapped, and not a player? Yet, we absorbed over $20M in dead money and signed Suh to a MONSTER DEAL.

I totally agree. With Aponte working the numbers I am not worried. We have some real ballbusters in our FO right now. I love it! They are getting **** done!

with him being designated a June 1 cut the cap hit falls over two years. he suppose to count as $4.2m next season...but his salary will be removed opening $2.8m from next season.

I was one of the one's who pissed on the idea of Tannebaum running the whole show after his failures with the Jets but he seems to have all cylinders clicking now. He been letting Dawn and Hickey do their jobs and just seems to keep everyone focus on the over all team strategy.
Best front office we have had in a while but of course the proof is in the pudding (number of wins this season)

Wheeler had a $7 million dollar signing bonus and he played 2 years for us. That's a $1.4 million dollar hit each year for the bonus . . . meaning we cleared $2.8 million and still had another $4.2 million to get through.

He would of counted as $4.2 million dead hit against the cap in 2015 if we made him a regular cut. Essentially accelerating the rest of the bonus to this year.

By making him a June 1st cut, we only take the $1.4 million dead space hit (his signing bonus hit for this year) this year and we moved the other $2.8 million (final 2 years) to 2016 . . . and we have $2.8 million in dead money for Phillip Wheeler in 2016.

Guess Omar stalking Finheaven again today:

NOW I know why Miami's dead $ level changed from $23M to $21M. Phillip Wheeler's $2.8M hit moves to 2016 and a June 1 cut. Been bothering me

Don't we get any money back in our cap next year with all the dead money from Ellerbe,Wallace,Wheeler? Or no?

Their cap hits effect this year only (well Wheeler rolls 2.8 million into next year via the June 1st designation). We purged a ton of contracts this year, to the tune of $22 million in dead cap . . . which I'd imagine is tops or near the top of the league. Never a good thing.

It's not really a refund in 2016 though, none of those guys contracts take up space past this season (except Wheeler) so there is nothing to give back. . . we just pushed back so many contracts that 2016 was always going to be the year which would give us some cap tightness. When you sign Suh for $114 million and the first year only makes up like $6 million on the cap . . . you pretty much realize the hammer you are taking for the rest of the deal.

Let's imagine that we didn't have to cut all those guys and "purge those contracts" and their deals just so happened to expire . . . . we'd have an additional $22 million in cap space for 2015 . . . and we could of used that money to get other players or probably moved some of that Suh/Tannehill/Pouncey money to this year so next year wouldn't be so tight.

Dead cap is a killer and you eventually pay for it in the long run. We CANNOT have another year like this for a while.
