Hall Of Famer
PainNotPleasures Project Depth Chart
Offense
QB: Gus Frerotte/A.J. Feeley, Sage Rosenfels
RB: Ricky Williams/Ronnie Brown, Sammy Morris RB/FB, Travis Minor
FB: Heath Evans
Note* This is where the hard predictions begin and my first prediction is that what I didn't think would be come reality seems likely to happen... Lamar Gordon will most likely not make the team and be released or traded and Travis Minor will get the last spot on the Depth Chart. Also if you look below you see that I am also predicting that Derrius Thompson will not make the team and be released or traded. And as you may have noticed I pulled a Nick Saban with Gus and AJ not naming the starter as well as Ricky/Ronnie but as we know Ricky is suspended the first 4 games of the season and the most likely starter for week 1 is Ronnie Brown or Sammy Morris.
WR1: Chris Chambers
WR2: Marty Booker
WR3: David Boston
WR4: Bryan Gilmore
WR5: Wes Welker
TE: Randy McMichael, Lorenzo Diamond, Donald Lee, John Owens
Offensive Line
LT: Damion McIntosh, Anthony Alabi
LG: Jeno James
C : Seth McKinney, Alphonzo Ephraim
RG: Rex Hadnot, Josh St. Clair
RT: Vernon Carey, Stockar McDougle
Note* I decided that I'm going to narrow the 10 Offensive Line man 8 or 9 so for now Damion Cook is gone and we will have John St.Clair as the swing man rotating positions and filling in where needed. I'm not sure if Ephraim will make team but for now I say he stays and that we'll stick with 9 guys. And as for C, Wade Smith is on the PUP list so I am not counting him against the roster, same with Chester and the rest of the players on the PUP List. So with Cook gone that means Josh Shaw makes the team after all.
Defense
Scenario 1: (4-3 base)
LE: Kevin Carter, Matt Roth, John Denney
NT: Keith Traylor, Kevin Vickerson
RDT: Vonnie Holliday, Jeff Zgonina DT/NT, Manuel Wright
OE : Jason Taylor, RE: David Bowens
*Note: OE= Open End
LOLB: Donnie Spragan
MLB: Zach Thomas
ROLB:Junior Seau
Scenario 2 (3-4 base)
LE: Kevin Carter, Matt Roth OLB/DE, John Denney, Mnunel Wright
NT: Keith Traylor, Jeff Zgonina, Kevin Vickerson
RE: Vonnie Holliday, David Bowens
LOLB: Jason Taylor
LILB: Zach Thomas
RILB: Channing Crowder
ROLB: Junior Seau
Note* Really unsure about where Manuel Wright would fit in the 3-4... I just see him strictly as a 4-3 DT but I supposed he would be playing some NT perhaps depending on if Josh Shaw makes the team, he could be the 3rd NT when we play 3-4 even though he'd most likely never be in. I definitely feel confident though about Keith Traylor, Josh Shaw, and Kevin Vickerson as our NT's for when do use the 3-4. Also those are what I feel the LB'ers will be in the 3-4... Jason Taylor, Zach Thomas, Channing Crowder, and Junior Seau to be the four out there. Forgive if I mixed that up a bit, I know Thomas and Crowder would definitely be in the inside and I'm pretty sure Zach would be the LILB and Crowder the RILB.
Linebackers
LOLB: Donnie Spragan, Jason Glenn, Eddie Moore
MLB: Zach Thomas, Channing Crowder
ROLB:Junior Seau, Eddie Moore (predicting Derrick Pope to be released)
Note*
ROLB= Weakside Linebacker (WLB aka "Will") - Junior Seau
LOLB= Strongside Linebacker (SLB aka "Sam") - Donnie Spragan
MLB= Middle Linebacker (MLB aka Mike) - Zach Thomas
Secondary
LCB: Reggie Howard, Travis Daniels
Right Safety: Yeremiah Bell, Lance Schulters
Left Safety: TeBucky Jones, Travares Tillman
RCB: Sam Madison, Mario Edwards, Kris Richard
Nickelback: Travis Daniels
Dimeback: Mario Edwards/Kris Richard
Note* For those who do not know we no longer have a Free Safety (FS) and a Strong Safety (SS), in Saban's defensive scheme it is known just as the Right Safety and the Left Safety. I apologize if I swapped them around and got them mixed up but I am pretty sure that I understood it and got it right.
Special Teams
Kicker (K):Olindo Mare
Punter (P): Donnie Jones
Long Snapper (LS): John Denney
Kick Returner (KR): Wes Welker, Travis Minor, Bryan Gilmore
Punter Returner (PR): Wes Welker
Yes, you've heard from Pain himself... one of my hardest decisions of the night but I have decided that I do feel that Turk is not worth the money he is getting paid and that he will be released and that our new punter will be former LSU Tiger Donnie Jones.
Physically Unable To Perform (PUP List/Injured Reserve)
DT- Larry Chester (PUP)
S- Chris Akins (IR)
LS- William Delahoussaye
CB- Shirdonya Mitchell (Non Football Injury)
FB- Ben Moa
WR- Kendall Newson (IR)
CB- Will Poole (PUP)
Cuts:
RB-Lamar Gordon
FB- Jamar Martin
WR- Derrius Thompson (or possible trade)
WR- Maurice Mann
TE Alex Holmes
TE- John Owens (Despite whether he's a good blocker or not I feel that Lee and Diamond will make the team over him and that we end up getting a conditional round pick for him whether it depends on Ayanbadejo's performance or what, I think we'll get a pick for Brendon and that Owens will most likely not make the team in my honest opinion.
G/C- Jason Thomas
G- Taylor Whitley (or possible trade even if it's for toilet paper, I DO THINK that we should take anything offered.)
G- Eric Wilson
G- Rodney Reed
G- Damion Cook
DT- Reggie Rhodes (Now I feel like an idiot because in another thread I forgot his first name so I called him Rodrick :D )
DT- Dario Romero
DE- Matt Walters
LB- Taylor Winston
LB- Derrick Pope (I just think we need to make room and that he has to go if we decide to keep Eddie Moore which I think that we will)
CB- Deandre Eiland
S- Jack Hunt
S- Tony Bua (Thought long and hard about this but we need the roster spot more than we need Tony Bua... Special Teams is important but Saban made some noise by releasing Ed Perry which makes me wonder he probably wouldn't have kept Welker around if he didn't intend on using him at WR, and that he wouldn't leave Minor around unless he didn't intend on using him at RB, and he traded Ayabadejo because he didn't intend on using him at LB and because of Jason Glenn. All of these GREAT Special Teams players for us but they could also do more than one thing they are all versatile. Ed Perry wasn't... he gone. Brendon Ayabadejo (god I miss you) wasn't... now he's gone. And I don't feel Tony Bua will be at Safety, so I think he has to go and I think that Saban will realize the same thing.
P- Matt Turk (made up my mind, thought even longer and harder about this one... he is not worth the money and he has to go.)
Some possiblities of cuts but I probably don't think will happen are:
Travis Minor- (feel he will make the team over Gordon),
Larry Chester- (feel he will stay on the PUP list),
Mario Edwards- (I really do think that unless we pick someone else up that we're stuck with him)
Josh Shaw/Jeff Zgonina- One of them will be making this team and one of them will have to go in my honest opinion, that's how I see it. Very very slim (no pun intended) chance that both of them make this team, better chance that both of them won't honestly.
Donald Lee- Lets not kid ourselves... definitely a possiblity..
Lorenzo Diamond- I think it's a possibility he could be released, especially if Lee and Owens excell.
Tony Bua- I know a lot of people on this board are huge BUA fans and I love the kid but if he can't be productive at all safety, despite how good of special teams player he may be... there's a chance he may not make this team.
Matt Turk/Donnie Jones- It's pretty obvious and pretty clear to everyone here that only of them could be our punter... I am not sure who's going to win the job, I really do think Donnie Jones has a legitimate realistic chance and whomever doesn't win the job will be released no doubt.
Stockar McDougle- Very unlikey in my opinion because even if he doesn't crack the starting lineup, we will keep him for DEPTH and there's a reason why we only signed him to a one year contract and I think that he'll stick around this year whether he's starting or not.
Eddie Moore- Always wondered... Where's Waldo? Better question, where's Eddie Moore? It's becoming more and more realistic that Eddie Moore may not make this team and that would definitely finally furtermore clarify him as a WANNY BUST. I'm really not sure if he's going to make the team, I really think Jason Glenn- will and I'm not sure if they both will. I honestly don't want to see Eddie Moore go even though he is an undersized LB.
David Bowens- Really don't think he's going anywahere unless this Corey Simon rumor is true which I doubt so just figured I'd throw his name in here because if Simon does infact become a Dolphin, we're going to be clearing out a bunch of people of him, especially on the D-line... Zgonina, D-Bo, Shaw, Romero.. but I really don't think we will be getting Simon and I really don't think Bowens will be going anywhere.
Ricky Williams- JAY SLASH KAY.. EL OH EL... Not happening. Though I'm sure everyone in the AFC East wish it would. RICKY IS HERE TO STAY!
Jay Fiedler- Okay I've had my fun
Well there you have it folks, I've just decided long and hard about everyone that I think will make the team and everyone that I think will be released. And what do I come up with? Including... Offense... Defense... and Special Teams and excluding the PUP list... I come up with a WHOPPING 54 men for a 53 man roster!!!! You've got to be kidding me! So perfect in every way except for 1 guy... Who does not belong? Is It Josh Shaw? Or could it possibly be........... Hey wait.... now that I look at it, yes... YES!!! It is Josh Shaw. Sorry buddy, you've made it this far but you are gone. Ladies and Gentleman, spent a long a$$ time on this so I hope you appreciate it, that is PainNotPleasures 53-man Depth Chart. Hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed working on it. Any comments, suggestions, or feedback would be greatly appreciated. And questions, I'm here to answer. Now............. Thoughts??
EDIT: After further analysis I have released G Damion Cook and narroed the O-line down to 9 players and have added TE John Owens who seems to have a pretty decent shot of making the team which means we could end up having 4 TE's. I am also toying with the idea of releasing Ephraim or Zgonina and possibly bringing back Josh Shaw but for now I like the way this Depth Chart stands.
