How many of u watched the Saints/Panthers game and thought they were trying to give Brees the record? Carolina calls a timeout with 7 (the coach wanted 7) seconds to go for the game winning field goal. The clock actually ticked to 6 but they still had 1 second to go when they kicked off. Carolina then kicked the ball out of bounds !!! Brees only needed 16 yds with most of the defenders backed up 25 yds !!!

If Brees would have completed that pass it would have been a travesty. Im sure Dan is not going to hold that record forever but to have lost it like that would have been a shame. Kudos to DAN THE MAN still the BEST QB EVER !!!

You're right, the whole scenario reeked of conspiracy. Thank God the reciever on the last play looked uninterested/not ready for the pass.

Why would the Panthers allow that to happen considering if they did not win that game they would have been the number 5 seed in the playoffs, not the number 2.

Why would the Panthers care about a fellow divisional rival breaking a record?

I doubt any team wants to give up any records and be shown again and again, in footage, as 'the team Brees reached the record against'. If they do, they should be embarrassed.

Nonetheless, it was a heck of a lot of yardage from Brees this season. It's a bit of a shame for him it ended up totally for nothing (Of course I mean that in terms of football. I'm sure it has been good for him financially).

are you serious ? the Panthers needed to win that game to be in the No.2 seed (emeraldfin wrote that earlier) and they were all backed up 25 yards because a long pass is expected.. Teams usually do this at the end of the game when a hail mary is expected.. On the last play Miami did that against the Jets, too..
and the Panthers helping the Saints would be like us helping Tom Brady to break a record:lol:

Yes, I noticed that too. They called a timeout with 6 seconds left in the clock instead of 5 seconds. They kicked out of bounds so brees can hit a slant. The saints don't even try the hailmary, they made a deal. No hailmary only a slant

lol gotta love interpretation and perception.

I would argue the exact opposite when the punter for Carolina "Shanked his punt. Brees needed 66 yards to break the record with over 3 minutes left. The punter "Shanks it" and it goes out around the 50 leaving only 50 possible yards.

With under 4 minutes and that offense I am sure no one believe Brees would have 2 shots at the record.

Oh and the kick out of bounds. I would interpret that as an intended squib kick. As soon as it is fielded there would be no time for an offensive play seeing as the Saints never called for a fair catch so the clock would have winded down and end of game.

In no way did the Panthers help the team or try to help Brees

But the Saints didn't run a slant.

You are not gonna risk a 1st round bye and the #2 seed on the "honor system" that the team isn't gonna try toscore they will only try to break the record.

Yeah I kind of noticed that.

Could just be a coincidence too.

I believe so. Can't the other team call for a fair catch? I might be wrong. But if they do the length of the kickoff is irrelevant.

I have to admit, I caught myself thinking the same thing. Two things though: Was the FG on 3rd or 4th down. because if it was third, it makes total sense to leave an extra few seconds in case you muff the snap, you can try again. If it was fourth, then, yeah, it was odd.
as for the kick-off going out of bounds, well, yeah it was crazy, but what are the chances the kicker meant it to go out of bounds. It could have bounced the other way just as easily. after all it was a line drive more or less in the middle of the field, not your classic on-side kick directly to the flats that likely will go out if not touched

how about brees in the last play? instead of playing for the win, he played to break the record. Lame.

I don't buy this conspiracy theory at all. You do realize that Carolina losing this game meant they lose out on a bye, right? Even though there was only one second left, nobody's going to put that on the line.

no he didnt. he threw a bomb down field. if wanted to break the record he could have easy. he was trying to win the game

Brees threw like a 25 maybe 30 yard pass.

Brees was in no way going for the win.
