Why exactly do people think Parcells knows how to draft?

Because of Demarcus Ware and Jason Witten. You guys might want to take a MUCH closer look at his cowboys drafts and realize he was wrong almost ALWAYS in 4 years.

Tony Romo was hand picked and hand trained by Sean Payton, so I'd love to know why all the love for Bill Parcells as if he even deserves to be in a class with Jimmy Johnson or Bill Belichek.

Some of you need to do your homework and wipe your chins.

This is the same guy who thought Keyshawn Johnson was worth the No.1 pick in the draft.

For the record, I'll add that I think BP does a great job in FA and that tends to be his source for rebuilding more so than his own draft picks. He's a much better evaluator of talent once those players have played in the NFL a few years.

Hey ghost.. I think you need to stop hiding in the closet and show yourself, then read this-

You don't go from a 1-15 team to a SB champion in one draft.. This is a step-by-step process.

There's just way too many impatient people here who just don't get it..

I think it is you who needs to do your homework.

Parcells didn't draft Keyshawn Johnson. It was Rich Kotite that selected Johnson the year BEFORE Parcells arrived in NYJ.

Wasn't this supposed to be a thee year project, at least? I think people around here tend to forget that, just a few months ago, we were excitedly talking about being competitive in 2010.

You need to start somewhere. And I don't think even Parcells, as much of a proud dude as he is, ever promised us that one single draft was all we needed.

It's not. Next year, if this year's picks work out, we'll be in the position to start drafting skill players. And maybe then, in 2009, if those picks work out, we'll have the whole package.

As for right now, you can't have it both ways. Do you want a line or do you want skill players? One's gotta come before the other. And a good team knows which one goes where.

I don't care whether or not he is a genius. I care about how he is going about putting this team together with the resources and info he has at his disposal.
He is a welcome change after the inept drafting of the last three coaches, plus I think he put together a solid, no nonsense coaching staff.
No coach or GM/VP has ever gotten it all correct. Some are better than others, but you got to admit, Parcells' track record is better than many, many others.

The Palm Beach post did an article in January about the drafting success of Jeff Ireland and Bill Parcells.
Ireland ran the Cowboys drafts in 2005, '06 and '07 and, with Gaine as a close assistant, converted picks like Larry Bird made free throws.

Of the 24 selections Ireland made, 23 of them made the active roster out of training camp (the lone exception spent the season on injured reserve) and 18 were in uniform last Sunday when the Cowboys hosted the New York Giants in the playoffs.

Parcells became head coach two years before Ireland, then the team's national scout, took over the draft. Parcells resigned before Ireland's final draft with Dallas.

In that five-year span, 25 of the Cowboys' 39 draft picks were good enough to make last weekend's playoff roster. Ten of them started. An 11th draftee, Nick Folk, was the kicker. Eight others were acquired as free agents, leaving only four playoff starters who pre-dated Parcells and Ireland.
If this was just about Parcells running the draft, I probably would agree with you. However with Jeff Ireland as part of the process, I'm not worried at all.

Im so upset with this draft. We got an amazing lT prospect first overall. We got a steal with both our second rounders, a 6'6 DE who fits perfectly in our 3-4 defense and a potentially start LG in the 4th. It's just been a nightmare.

I see the Fins as a very different team from a few weeks ago, BP added depth, size and character.
We'll be able to run the ball and stop the run, as a first step I'll take it.

Parcells is drafting guys we've never heard of!! noooo!!!!! The Ghost for team president

but the Ghost has a point BP has wuff on some draft picks

but as Dolphins fan I'm willing enough to show patience

First of all Keyshawn was drafted the year before Bill got to New York. Its not that hes a genius on the draft he is a genius on rebuilding teams. This comes by fixing the FO,FA and yes the draft. He will find 1 or 2 UFA to make up for the mistakes he makes in the draft and he will also find a couple of gems late in the draft. To try and judge this draft before these guys even get on the field is unfair. I will wait and approve or disapprove at a later date. Oh yea he also traded Keyshawn to Tampa Bay for two first rounders. Not a bad front office move.

One other thing, I will take a Witten and Ware on my team anyday.
