I know that Bill Parcells, Jeff Ireland, Tony Sparano are building for the future like in a couple of years. But what im wondering is if they are going to build for the immediate future or a couple years down the road and just wash this season down the toilet. I mean we have a lot of money under the cap and we have a lot of good draft picks, do you think Parcells and Co. are going to try to get us to win now as well as later, or simply just later.

I'm guessing they will gut this team before the season.

Don't be surprised if players get traded draft day for picks.

I see another horrible year maybe 4-5 wins but with alot of draft picks.

absolutely. there is no other reason for BP to state that he was "going to keep and build around jason taylor".

mia signed joey porter and vonnie holiday the last two years because they r trying to win NOW.

BP stated that he was NOT going to trade JT, but that he would build the 2008 squad "around him" and players like him.

MIA pretty much goofed on the QB spot this past season. also they needed to find a replacement for keith traylor and fell to the injury bug.

so they just need to get the QB position "right", replace keith traylor, get injured players back or replaced with healthy ones and we r competing for the playoffs.

if they weren't then BP would have put JT on the block for picks.

One thing Parcells did in Dallas was add key veterans and for
the most part drafted smartly. There wasn't a player worth a damn
unless you count worthless Roy Williams, and Greg Ellis who i think
made him a better player.Look at that team, very young and deep
in talent and built to compete at a high level as Parcells always does.
The Dolphins with their picks and cap luxury will allow for the same
result as those other teams.

Judging form Ireland at the Senior Bowl practice they now it's the long haul. He made the comment that Rome wasn't built in a day. I am sure it will be a 3 or 4 year plan. Isn't Bill signed on for 4 years. Might not be that long since we have real scouts now, or atleast are lead to believe we do.

I would expect this team to show immediate improvement next season. (I mean, how could we not right?) I expect to win right around 4-6 games next season. An 8-8 season would be like a Super Bowl to me! I guess in short what I'm saying is I expect us to win more but we're still quite a ways away from being a playoff team again.

I'm sure they don't have any ridiculous, far-fetched hopes, but I'm sure they aim to make us as competitive as possible.

They will not wash this coming season down the toilet. They will draft players they think will help immediately. They will bring in key, veteran free agents to fill perceived holes, and field the most competitive team they can. Will this season still end up in the toilet? Maybe. Probably. But the league is designed to allow quick turnarounds, if you draft smartly, develop players, and find players who can play well within your schemes. I have no delusions of being a playoff team next year, but there are plenty of examples of quick turnarounds in the NFL.

You can go out and sign key agents, and spend your cap dollars, as long as you are looking forward and making sure you are not set up for salary cap hell in a year or two. If you can bring in a couple real good players and still have flexibility next year, you do it. The key is effectively managing the cap.

However, beyond drafts and FA, the real variable here is developing young players. Young players making major leaps are what can get teams over the hump and relevant again in a hurry. D. Anderson and B. Edwards in Cleveland are a good example. Unlike prior years, where our cupboard was pretty bare, we do have some young guys who have some potential . What if Beck/Ginn breakout next year? What if Solai develops his technique? What if R. Wright, A. Wright, or Q. Moses step up next year and turn into a force on defense? There is always hope (especially in the offseason).

There is also the possibility/ probability of raiding the Practice squads of other teams to get young, unknown (to the normal fans) players that are very talented for decent contracts. I strongly believe this is where our Pro scouts will earn their paychecks from this year! Why else would Carpdaddy have brought in Dallas' head of Pro Scouting? He will undoubtedly have a good idea which players on each roster would make a significant upgrade to ours, and relatively cheaply, also!

I think we were much better than a 1 win team this year aside from a lack of clutch plays and some injuries that were impossible to overcome. Our young guys are going to play much better this year. I think Jason Allen, Brown, Crowder, Ginn, and maybe even Rod Wright if he gets a shot will have very good years next year.

Drafting a couple of guys that can play immediately on defense and bringing in 2 or 3 key FAs will make us a 7 or 8 win team next year. You have to look at the Bucs this year, the Saints last year, the Jets last year, the Titans, etc.

Like someone else said earlier in this thread, the league is designed for teams to be able to turn it around quickly. I really think with the right staff, system, and players that any team in this league can be competitive immediately. That's not to say we need 10 pro bowlers, just guys that fit what the staff wants to do.

Couldnt agree more with your post. We dont need a probowl roster, we need to redo the defense this year and we have some good players to do it, and we need to be competitive on offense and were a 6-9 win season.

Absolutely 420. I feel the same way. I think it's amusing that some of the people on here think there's a 3 or 4 or 5 year plan. Do they think Parcells, Sparano, and Ireland sit in a room and say: Well we only want to win 5 games in 2008 and then 8 in 2009 and then AFC Divisional Card loss in 2010 and win the Superbowl in 2011?

These guys are going to do everything they can do to field a team that wins the Superbowl next year. They'll scour the combine, work the draft and trade phones, get zero sleep for the next three months. They'll do absolutely everything possible to have us lose ZERO games next year, have no injuries, and if they do have able bodied backups to plug in. Now they might make mistakes but if they do they were mistakes and they happen. Then at the end of that season they'll start over and do it all again. Between the three of them they HAVE to be making 12 million next year to go through all of this.

I don't think you can go into the season and expect much.

But they are playing with house money this year, you know the team will not be as bad as last year, so anything they do this year will look better.

Year two is when the pressure starts.

I find it amusing just the other way..., do you not realize how bad this team really is they have inherited... you have to throw the "near" wins and out the window and look at this team for what's its worth... Teams played down to our level last year... NY is in the SB and we nearly upset them...

CamRam thought we were close last year T.Green was the immediate answer. Beck was brought in to be groomed...

Phil Rivers, Eli Manning, B. Rothlesberger, T.Brady Favre all consensus leaders only Garrard was a real surprise at the start of the campaign...

Our current best player is on the shelf RB..., our second current best player JT has likely played his very best already..., and our next best player V.Carey is likely playing out of his natural position....

Our stength is likely our Oline and it is a few pieces a way from dictating to the Defense how the game will be played..., so dude "hold your horses"...

If you are saying they will mortgage the future for a chance in hell to win it all... I would disagree... There will be a plan... It will include investing in both lines for years to come... And not at the costs of both Faneca and F.Adams and Dorsey... Don't expect sexy picks in this years draft outside of a QB in one of the rounds...

We need a winning pedigree...
