"It's something some coaches and some general managers don't bother to pay attention to," said former NFL linebacker Steve DeOssie. "There's a number of guys who have shown they have something left in the tank or they were misused by organization. "Parcells is not against taking chances. Most GMs or coaches won't. They play it safe."
"If you're going through bad times and you're an old-school player that knows you have to work to get to the prize, that's the kinds of guys he likes," said Ferguson, who also played for Parcells with the New York Jets and Cowboys. "He doesn't like guys who already got it or don't feel like they have to work that hard to get it anymore. "He likes guys to stay hungry."
Hungry players make sense for a few reasons. "One, they have something to prove. Two, the price is right," said Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland, who worked with Parcells in Dallas. "Obviously the talent level was there at some time. If you can put him in position, you have a combination of things that may be successful. We work hard to find those guys."
