There really seems to be a divide amongst fans when it comes to support and/or criticism. Alot of fans appear to be critical about certain moves, while others want to silence any negative comments and root for the best. While I'm definately a huge supporter our franchise, I'm not alone when it comes to scrutinizing mistakes. Anyone watching ESPN yesterday probably saw each pick got an ESPN grade and a FANS grade. Why? Because its important for every franchise to understand how the moves they make are valued by the fans. Also, these days communities (via the internet) are much more involved in evaluating these talented players then ever. That doesnt make any Joe Schmo a pro scout. But you'd be suprised how much the average fan knows about small schools, combines, size, speed etc.

The guy who asks people to stop criticizing, has said the same thing during Cam/Mueller, Saban, Wanny/Spiellman. He's the guy who forever thought Culpepper would eventually pan out. Fans actually do have to hold their franchise/general manager accountable for their mistakes. If you dont, you end up with Matt Millen (detroit) who somehow still has a job after being the WORST general manger ever.

Personally I think the most important thing for an NFL franchise is to consistantly draft players who will contribute to your team for 4+ years. We really struggle at this. Obviously since we've gone through multiple regimes it has hurt us. One of the best franchises in the league is the Pittsburgh Steelers. I want to show a comparison from 2002-2004.

In todays salary cap league, it is not easy to land players (via the draft) that will play 4+ years for your franchise. However when you compare Miami's 2 players to Pittsburgh's 9 it really starts to show a trend. You build a winning franchise through the draft.

This is why the NFL draft has the type of coverage and criticisim that we see. It can truely make or break your franchise.

Being a fan entitles people to certain opinions.

That said, certain opinions are more informed than others.

I personall think the most idiotic opinion of this draft is crying
about Lorenzo Booker. For Jimmany Christmas's sakes......He's
THRID on the depth chart!!!!!

I guess I just don't have huge loyalty to the thrid HB on the team.

I LOVE this draft!

Reason the Lorenzo Booker trade makes my hair stand up.

1. When we originally drafted (#71) Lorenzo Booker, (honestly) I HATED the pick. Didnt think depth at Running Back was a priority. I also though he was undersized. I wanted to draft a cornerback, defensive line or offensive line.

#72 Marcus McCauley (CB) *should've been the pick
#81 Jay Alford (NT) *would've been good
#84 Jonathan Wade (CB)
#85 Brandon Mebane (DT)
#86 Marshal Yanda (T)
#106 Tanard Jackson (FS) *would've been good, especially with the injuries we had in 07

2. We draft Lorenzo Booker. He comes into camp and wows people. Every over obsessed fan like man anticipates a guy who will contirbute a big play somewhere in the season.

3. Lorenzo doesnt even suit up for half the season?

4. End of the season he's arguably our best offensive player. Shows tons of promise, makes a bunch of speedy plays and even shows his durability.

5. New regime comes in, figure half the roster will be shipped out. Expected.

6. Coach Sparano personally endorses Booker. Says we will have to devise ways to get this guy the ball. Special player.

7. On draft day we trade Lorenzo Booker to Philadelphia for a 4th round (#115) pick. We trade up to 110 and draft OT Shawn Murphy. A guy who we all knew parcels/sparano liked. I like. Definately thought he'd be around in the 6th round, but good pick.

in 2007 we draft a guy we dont need over needs (with starting caliber talent on the board). He develops into a very solid prospect with tons of potential. Everyone seems to be backing him. Then we trade him 1 year later (a 2nd year player) for a 4th round pick. WHERE IS THE VALUE IN THAT? Infact, I dont think I've ever seen a 2nd year starter get traded like that.

Its not about hating on our team. Its not about hating on parcells. I'm on board, we've made a LOT of improvement. BUT you can only take a certain METHOD/PLAN so far. You cant just blindly throw away talent because you want to impliment a different scheme. You cant just throw away talent because you didnt scout/draft it. Thats ignorant and it will eventually cost us.

I'll give you a similar example.

Last year when the Trent Green talks were beginning. EVERYONE in the league knew he would eventually be cut by Kansas City. But because Cam Cameron was so hellbent on his FAMILIAR guy (who happened to be old and injury prone) he had to go trade a 5th round pick. (#148)

2007 Draft
#148 Kolby Smith (RB) Kansas City
#153 Kevin Boss (TE) New York Giants
#170 William Gay (CB) Pittsburgh
#193 Mason Crosby (K) Green Bay

Its not that I dont understand the plan. Hopefully our new power running attack will be implimented and successfull. Ronnie Brown is one of the most under rated backs in the league. I've supported him forever while this board want to trade him and/or draft a running back. I pray that he recovers 110%. When you're 1-15 you hope to not get rid of the few talented players. Goodbye Lorenzo Booker.

I agree ... I am the first to openly be criticial of bad moves but that doesn't mean i'm not a dolfan. I loved what we did and glad we finally addressed the needs of the team.....remember the entire coaching staff was let go, including trainers and almost the entire rooster is changed so you have to start on the lines and thats what they did... good job BP

I really like that the fanbase is being critical of the organization. There was such a rush to deify Saban and then even Cam Cameron. It was such a sick, sheep mentality to put them on pedestals before they even do jack for our team. Questioning Parcells and Co is healthy. Personally, I'm mostly happy with his moves so far and I admire his past success so I can wait awhile before I form any concrete opinions on what he's done.

Here's an idea. Let's at least wait until we PLAY A FRICKIN DOWN before we criticize anything. We haven't even gone through training camp yet. Everyone is entiltes to their opinion but man.

7. On draft day we trade Lorenzo Booker to Philadelphia for a 4th round (#115) pick. We trade up to 110 and draft OT Shawn Murphy. A guy who we all knew parcels/sparano liked. I like. Definately thought he'd be around in the 6th round, but good pick..

You may have "thought" that, but thank goodness our management staff knows better and traded up for him.. Because it's been well documented that the cowboys were going to take him with the next pick.

And for your information, the war room at the sporting news had Murphy rated as the 3rd best guard in the draft. (and there are others who rated him the 2nd best)

http://warroom.sportingnews.com/nfl/draft/2008/players/8039.html

He's going to be alot better for us than you think he will be.. And he will play EVERY PLAY.. Unlike Booker who will be lucky to get 4 plays a game as he is a very limited fringe player who is weak and can't block worth a damn and can't run inside worth a lick.

it's been well documented that the cowboys were going to take him with the next pick.

.

This I agree with, and even mentioned during the draft. I thought he was a player that we scouted alot more than most. Therefor when we traded I had to assume that dallas (with parcells & co ties) must have had serious interest for him.

I love the player.

And like I'll continue to say, I just hate that we gave up booker. In all honesty. I'd take booker/murphy (no trade) and dallas can keep fasano and ayodele

Book has too much offensive upside/potential on a team that doesnt have alot.

We're going to be a power running team, we dished him.

Oh well.

The third round pick (Booker) turning into a 4th really isn't that big a deal. I liked Booker a lot and who knows why he didn't play more last year, but what if he isn't the next Warrick Dunn. I'd love to get a 3rd for Roth now or a 4th for Daniels or anything for Alabi. Value diminishes rapidly.

Booker = fodder

This draft wasn't about propelling us into the play-offs this year... this was about changing our horrible DNA core of soft players... Matt Roth bumped a likely cut... Beck could be bumped to third string... TE Martin bumped by Fasano ... Oline restructure well on it's way... Dline restructure well on it's way... LBs huge turnover... ST completely restructure... Do you understand that this is about DNA.... Our DNA has sucked... JT is an elite player with a big mouth so is Porter... BP is getting the dressing room back...

This will give Sparano a chance to get his mantra off...

we can argue his official roster status, but I'm pretty sure our entire staff was fired in 1 year

from week 13-17 when he finally saw playing time he average 72yards/gm on offense.

thats first on our team.

we traded him (a 2nd year player) for a 4th round pick

He is still a RB. Is he gonna start in front of Ronnie and/or Ricky?

Who's the starting running back on Jacksonville? Why did dallas draft Felix Jones? Why does Leon Washington always cripple Miami? Because playmaking, great catching backs are very valueable in this league. Its a two-back league. Until ricky williams actually produces, I dont want to hear about him being anything of value. And Ronnie Brown is coming off a torn ACL , it'll be another year before he's actually recovered.

I support BP and staff. The only real problem i've had with their moves was trading LoBo to the eagles for a 4th round pick.

I did not understand that move at all.
