I have been thinking about this whole turn around and Parcells 4 year deal.

First I know this will offend, but last year was a fluke. No one expected a QB like Penny to drop in to the Dolphins laps. Penny was the differeance of going 11-5 to 5-11.

Second it takes a few years to rebuild the team. that is why you see Parcells and company (Refered here after as Parcells) stock pileing draft picks.

third IT has always been Parcells plan to make a serious run in 2011. He plan has always been about getting a bunch of parcells type players. (Big and smart).

fourth it ususally takes years to develop a good franchise QB. I know there have been execptions over the last couple of years. ALso it takes year to develop that number one receiver. That is why this is the critical year for Ginn.

Fifth looking at QB right now: you have three young studs at QB. While I don't want to write off this season, just keep in mind, next year we will know if we can move on from Chad Pennington.

Finally, why would Parcells bring back Taylor? He hasn't shown anything that he had a couple of years ago. I like the guy and really want him to do well. Unless he steps up this season, I would bet that he doesn't come back next season. The only reason he brought back Taylor was so that he can mentor the younger players.

I want to see the Dolphins win and I want another SB. I think we need to take the long view on this and let Parcells build up a dynasty.

I can agree with everything but Ginn. He's missing something, and its obvious he won't find it. time to accept that he is a number 2 reciever and look for a true number 1.

You hit on some fine points Ralph and I agree with you. Last year we snuck up on some people and I had no expectations going into this year. Whether Parcels remains, or not, he has laid the groundwork for a competitive team for years to come. The re-addition of Taylor, initially, was to mentor and keep fair weather fans interested in this team. He has been the face of the franchise since Marino retired, and placing him at LB keeps him out of the 3-point stance and taking (relatively speaking) less abuse to his body. I also think our brutal schedule this year will give us the challenges we need to excel in the future.

Finally, the voices of reason. Yea, we've had a slow start and may have a BAD season, but at least some of the pieces are in place. There is (at least for me) reason for hope as (again to me) this is the best collection of talent since D. Marino was here. There are pieces to be added, and we need to find out if some of the players we have are players or POS's like we had for the last 4 head coaches. I'm not jumping off any bridges yet, and from the 'tone' of this thread neither are (at least some) you.

Taylor probably joined us because he thought we had a chance at a Superbowl after last year's success.

Parcells had him join us because he could mentor the young guys...and Parcells probably knew we weren't really ready to contend this year.

Does that mean Taylor was suckered?

Yes, we have SOME pieces in place. But we seriously lacking in others. We need an overhaul on the ENTIRE LBing corps. None of the guys we have currently are championship team worthy...at least four new starters. We need two new Safeties. Bell and Wilson (both expensive and) both suck. On offense, we need two new OG. Both of these guys are garbage. Our tackles are less than stellar as well. The only WRs we have that dont suck are Hartline and Bess. The others need to all go away. They suck. Our RBs will need to be replaced if your theory is right. None of these guys will be servicable in 2011.

So we have three good DEs, two good CBs. Two second rate WRs (not a #1) and we dont know what we have at QB. Everything else needs to be upgraded. I am not sure these guys have it in them.

overachieving+high expectations-patience-a #1 WR=average season, pissed off/disappointed fans and ridiculous posts (none of this directed at you though)

First of all I don't think there is any such thing as long term plans when it comes to Parcells. He may get the itch to become a HC again and don't think for a minute he won't be gone in a flash if he does.

I think you are overstating the 3 young "studs" big time. Thigpen is is a back up at best and I have no idea what White is but I do know he is not a QB, at least a top flight starter. I think you guys better really hope that Henne is the real deal, he does have potential. If he works out then you have the most important piece in the rebuilding project. If he doesn't though you guys are a long ways away.

Not sure of long range plans but Im sure short term plans include gulfstream park and dollar hot dog night

I like the post, and i think most of our fans have forgotten how last year was looking pre-pennington.
I would like to see us go after a #1 WR, placing Ginn at #2 unless he comes out of his shell with Henne back there tossing the pigskin to him.
I would also like to see Crowder as our weak side linebacker and us draft a true Mike linebacker. Crowder just does not have IT to be our defensive leader.
Our lines are looking rather stout seeing as we are top 3 in the league at rushing and stopping the rush.
We have our future at CB with Davis and Smith......so my draft wish list starts like this:
Safety
WR
Linebacker

I think the difficulty lies in finding a HC job for Parcells where he won't be forced by some smuck (Jerry Jones) to carry players he doesn't like or want. So honestly he is in the best place for him...making decisions that no one is going to over rule. Not to mention he can leave whenever he wants- which subsequently means he likely won't.

Well he quit on three teams so they must all have been owned by smucks.
Personally I just think Parcells is not good taking any heat at all as coach and bolts whenever anyone questions him too hard. He basically can just relax in this job, go to the tracks and hit all the buffetlines in the area. I doubt any team hires him away as a coach.

Sorry I just see Parcells as a good knowledgable football man that is without ethics and acts like a spoiled brat.

I agree with you here, I tend to think that Parcells is going to stay with the Dolphins in this position for awhile. I just know from experience that he doesn't have long term plans and he will do whatever suits him best whenever he wants. You just never know with the Tuna.
