One thing that he is already planning is picking up four or five guys off waivers after the Dolphins supposedly settle their roster. In other words, the Dolphins will make their final cuts. And then a couple of days letter, cut a few more guys because they're going to try and bring in a couple of other players from around the league.

The idea is that the No. 54 player on another team, the guy not good enough for that team, could be No. 50 or No. 51 on the Dolphins. So the Dolphins will set their roster with their best 53 players, then whack the last couple of guys on the roster and bring in better guys.
It is a way to strengthen the bottom of the roster -- meaning the depth of the team.

Smart stuff.

This is real smart stuff and something I really like.

I'm sure Parcells already has his eye on a bunch of his former players in Dallas, but just once I'd like to see a guy who isn't good enough to play for the Patriots come play for the Dolphins. That pipeline has been flowing north for way too long.

There is three or four positions I could see them fill in. Obviously WR needs improvement. OLB is another if JT decides to retire or is traded. OT and CB are the last two, I know they say they are not looking at CB help, but you never know. A Veteran OT would be my favorite. I know Sparano loves Darilek, but we need someone better then that.

Why is that considered particularly clever?

I think when you compare it to the strategy employed by the previous regimes it sounds awfully clever. However, it's kind of like that Chris Rock "I take care of my kids" routine - " That's what you're supposed to do you dumb motha******"

But it's the same strategy employed by the last three regimes and arguably every team in the league.

Edit:This is from last year:

Dolphins searching waiver wire

Dolphins coach Cam Cameron and general manager Randy Mueller will be scouring the waiver wire for the next few days and are expected to bring in several released players for workouts this week. They'll probably target offensive and defensive linemen, as well as safeties such as former Chargers 2006 Pro Bowl special teams player Hanik Milligan, who was released by the Cardinals.

The past regimes have brought in guys just like Parcells has, everybody does this in the NFL. What I think Parcells will be doing is some what different. He might take a chance on players who have fallen out of favor with there previous team and give them a second chance. Ricky and Kircus seem to have taken fool advantage of this.

Yeah, they did, but I was referring to their knack for cutting guys who made contributions to other teams . Usually against the Dolphins, and usually in a Patriots uniform. I was agreeing with what CK posted, why is this strategy particularly clever when it's what you're supposed to do.

Difference here is that we have the #1 slot for waivers. Also it isn't that another team's 55th best player is better than our 53rd - it could be a deep postion on another team gets waived and that's a position we have minimal depth at. At least we are in the driver's seat to choose who to grab. This could be big for young guys stuck behind a position of strength for a team and aren't getting a good shot.

I guess Bill should sign up for a FinHeaven account and read about all the players he should be signing then. There is already a nice Cedric Benson thread up, and i'm sure he can track back a few days to take a look at Chris Henry and Odell Thurman.

Last year we were 9th on the waiver wire list so being high up isn't that new lately. And I don't recall ever hearing that we missed out on someone we wanted to pick up on waivers, at least not in the last few years.

I dont expect anyone significant to be waived or released with most teams out of any kind of cap trouble. I'm sure some over paid washed up guys will be available though, but Parcells this off-season has gone for more of a "young guys who cant play" approach over a "over the hill guys" approach.

or he could just call you...you seem to know everything.:rolleyes2:

I was thinking the same thing. Seems more like common sense to me. Fill out your roster with the best 53 players you possibly can while following cap rules and having the right amount at each position. Who wouldve thought.
