Ok in light of yesterday’s performance (or lack of) I knew I would read a lot of negative posts and rants here today. It’s all good Phins fans. Here is some light for you and the once proud franchise that will return from the darkness to the glory and honor that is Miami Dolphins Football!

Parcells took a Giant’s team over that was dismal to say the least in the ten years prior to his arrival their record was 38 and 91. Of course this franchise turned around and ended up winning two Super Bowls. With Parcells and after him they made 12 playoff appearances in 26 years 5 with him as coach. Before him they made 17 in 57 years.

When he took over the Patriots they were 70 and 89 and struggling. While the case can be made that they didn’t really improve until after Parcells left he did make the playoffs twice in his four years with the team, something the Pats had not done in 8 years prior. With Parcells and after his departure they have made 10 playoff appearances in 16 years before Bill they had made total of 6.

The Jets were 54 and 124 and of course the cellar dwellers of the NFL for so many years. The Jets made the playoffs 7 times in 36 years before Parcells took over. With Bill and after his departure they have made the playoffs 5 times in 12 years and you don’t need to be a statistician to see that improvement.

The Cowboys were 85 and 74 and had a team with talent but no leadership. This is by far the least accomplished of his turn arounds because it could be argued that this team needed guidance and not a turn around. The pieces were there and Parcells just need to use them. But still 3 playoff appearances in the last 6 years of course 2 with the Tuna.

And of course the leads me to our beloved Dolphins who were a perfect .500 at 80 and 80 in the ten years prior to the Tuna’s arrival. Of course this is a slightly different situation then the prior stints with the Giant’s, Pat’s, Jets and Boys because his roll is not on the field but behind the scenes. Bill needs to deliver the talent to a fresh coaching staff that is also learning how to make a winning team. It might be argued that this Dolphins team had less talent than any team that Bill has taken over with exception of the Jets and that this lack of talent has everything to do with pour front office decisions over the past 10 years. The lack of drafting and trading of talent over the years took the Jimmy Johnson work and flushed it all away for a win now mentality. Tuna and Co. are trying to put down the ground work for a win for decades campaign and with that comes growing pains. Losing games is a part of that growing pain, coaching mistakes by an inexperienced staff is part of that pain, mistakes on the field by a young team is most of that pain. It will come together in time and realistically 5 wins is a good year with the team we have. Anyone who expected ten wins from a team so young and new to each other was out near Pluto. It takes time up front but the ground work pays off in the long run as shown by the numbers. Have some patients, swear at the TV, kick the sofa, throw the Nerf at the big screen and remember it is all going to pay off for years to come.
