One thing they worked on tonight was max protection. They did a few all out blitzes, rushing 8 and once it looked like 9. You would figure this to be a sack for sure, but the Qb's only took a two step drop, then they just threw it deep towards one of the Wr's. No connections tonight, but it was good to see them work on something that some team is bound to do to them. Having that extra TE in there works wonders here. The protection could have been better but this is something I never once saw Wanny's staff work on. Practice makes perfect.
They really did not work that much on running the football tonight so there is really not much to write.
Gordon was stutterin
Ricky was Runninin
Brown was OK and runnin
Morris was fine
Minor, probably has the major run of the day, and it was only 8-10 yards.
Harris worked quite a lot on ST's
Enough of that....
What they practiced a lot on was 4 and 5 wide sets. They worked a lot on dump off passes to the outlets. Sometimes a Rb, sometimes a Wr breaks off a route. I would say that about 80 percent of the plays tonight were thrown less than 20 yards. This is surely a good thing, especially early on in a season when they can only hope that the Offensive Line can protect the Qb for more than 3.5 seconds. We all know that is a work in progress.
So now they have been working on max protect, and dump offs out of the spread offense. Two totally different ways to not only protect the Qb's, but to attack the field at the same time.
Booker caught three passes
HEY DONALD LEE CAUGHT TWO, AND DROPPED NONE !!!!!
Maurice Mann had a real nice couple of catches. He got two of the longer passes thrown to him, and on one he made an outstanding catch. All passes to him were thrown by Berlin. He is becoming an interesting prospect. He is tall, lanky, goes up for the ball, and has some pretty good hands. The Wr's might be set, but if he gets cut my bet is he's one of the first ones signed to the PS.
No Boston tonight
Chambers had a quiet night.
McMike had two catches that I saw
Welker got a few thrown his way. One was a nice break up by Bell. Bell hit him a little to hard though. Only shoulder pads were used, and he hit him dead in the back while Welker was in the air. Then he continues thru the play, driving Welkers shoulder into the ground. Welker got up shaking his head a little but he said nothing. A few plays later, he got even, catching a nice pass from Ferrotte right in front of Bell, but he could do nothing except watch the play go out of bounds for 20-25 yards.
Gilmore had that one perfect play, but he also dropped a pass right in the mitts. He runs some good routes though, and when the cuts come down I expect him to surely be in the mix til the end.
Josh Davis was wearing the dreaded red tonight but he still caught three passes that I saw. Nothing spectacular...
Newsone dropped two passes. One was a nice pass defense by Parker I believe, but he got his hands on it, and it was catchable.
OK now that we got the offense out of the way, up next is the defense
