I keep reading that we lack depth (seems no drop off after Reshad was lost) in the secondary or that our secondary is not good and especially that Maxwell needs to be replaced. I'm no expert but please explain why we don't perceive our secondary as a strength now. Sure, the defensive line is applying pressure but clearly the secondary is doing something right.

Hard to imagine we're 8th in pass D. I would have never guessed. But like you mentioned, maybe due to pressure up front.

Pressure up front is part of it but not all. These guys have figured out Vance's system. Oh and I forgot to mention, this is without Howard as well. Again, not much of a drop off.

With Howard hopefully returning soon and Jones back next season this could be a real strength in 2017.

It would be interesting to get the ratings of individual DBs.

Not to be that guy, because I love what this team is doing right now, but playing against subpar QBs, hurt QBs, and one that lost his ****ing mind in the 4th quarter has a lot to do with it.

I have lots of issues with our secondary. Not enough plays being made on the ball...they seem to get lost when WRs make cuts...I don't see enough closing speed on those out/in routes. Too handsy at times and they like to hold too much. They do well on deep balls for the most part which has more to do with their size (6 ft +) I think making it tougher to throw over the top and the pass rush (which I think most OCs in this league are scared of taking a 7-step drop with Wake and Suh coming down on their QBs) prevents teams from testing us deep often.

It's been really surprising to not see more teams pick on McCain in the slot or get their RBs matched up with our WLB (Jenkins or Hewitt) and test them in coverage.

Some of this also has to do with the fact that we're bad in run defense and so more teams play the time of possession game and run the ball on us rather than pass the ball.

Yeah I've been watching this the past few weeks and they have quietly moved up the ranks for total yardage. TDs given up are still a bit disappointing however but I guess 10th in that category is pretty good also.

Maybe Reshad's strength isn't really pass defense and he is missed more so in the run defense and blitz packages. Not saying he's replaceable, but there might not be as big a drop off in pass defense between him and Michael Thomas.

Here's the good news: Arizona's pass protection has been dreadful and Carson Palmer has been handling it poorly. That's a matchup that favors us coming to town in 3 weeks.

We have played half our games against top half of the league QBs too. Wilson, Brady, Dalton, Rothlesberger, and Rivers.

Understand what you're getting at but a lot of those hurt QBs were because of our D....

Rambo has been a very good/serviceable replacement for Reshad Jones.

Maxwell played a great game vs the Rams & Lippett has really come into his own can not wait to get Xavien Howard back.

Indeed. They've had some tough injuries as well. Carson has never been a good QB when there isn't a sturdy pocket to throw from. I mean, few are, but him especially.
