Our last 10 1st round draft picks have been:
2013 Dion Jordan
2012 Ryan Tannehil
2011 Mike Pouncey
2010 Jared Odrick
2009 Vontae Davis
2008 Jake Long
2007 Ted Ginn
2006 Jason Allen
2005 Ronnie Brown
2004 Vernon Carey
Out of those 10 picks, when we were on the clock how many are the pick you would have went for, and who would you have picked otherwise. Now no hindsight now, give us whose name you were shouting at the TV.

Wasn't thrilled with Jordan, or Tannehill, but wasn't mad either. Was ok with Pouncey. Loved the Odrick pick, though I was hoping we wouldn't trade back and I really wanted Earl Thomas. I did want Vontae. I didn't follow the draft as closely before that, so not going to comment.

Great thread, unfortunately my memory of who I wanted has faded. I do remember screaming at the TV when we made the Allen and Ginn picks.

2008 I was rooting for Jake.
2009 I didn't want a cornerback, I think I remember wanting a linebacker, but I was looking at the receivers. I loved Hakeem Nicks, for example.
2010 I think I wanted Dez Bryant..lol. I don't remember who we were looking at in reality, though.
2011 Pouncey was a good pick, I was on board with that.
2012 I was happy we committed a high pick to QB, but worried about what I perceived was a hesitation with Ryan and I remember Mike Sherman saying something about not wanting to go all out to push his view on picking Ryan. I remember thinking about that a long time. I was happy with the pick.
2013 I was looking at Tavon Austin, Eifert, or Patterson.

Being in Northern Ireland I wasn't always up when the drafts were on, but here goes mine:
2013 Lane Johnson, don't have a problem with Jordan though it depends how we use him, if we use him like JT them happy with him
2012 Ryan
2011 Was a bit indifferent, was ok with Pouncey
2010 Can't remember, think we targeted Dan Williams though
2009 Can't remember
2008 Matty Ice
2007 Brady Quinn
2006 Cromartie
2005 Aaron Rogers
2004 Can't remember
Think a bit of a recurring theme there, we went way too many years without a high pick on QB.

Other than Allen and Ginn, none were really busts: most of the picks were solid players with Jake being a top tackle before breaking down. Your first rounders need to be better than solid, though.

Fat Vern had the longest tenure of 8 years. Ronnie was the only other one here longer than 5 seasons (obviously too early to tell on Odrick, Pouncey, Tannehill, Jordan).

2013 Dion Jordan - would like to have either stayed at 12 and gone with Lotuleli or traded down a few and selected Eifert
2012 Ryan Tannehil - was ok with this
2011 Mike Pouncey - had no other preference
2010 Jared Odrick - would have stayed at 12 and jumped all over Earl Thomas
2009 Vontae Davis - wanted Cushing which would have required a move up but next option was the next pick, Clay Matthews
2008 Jake Long - Wanted Matt Ryan [interestingly this would have been 3 years in a row wanting a QB in the 1st]
2007 Ted Ginn - Yep, wanted Brady Quinn [foolish behaviour]
2006 Jason Allen - Really wanted Cutler so would have attempted to trade up
2005 Ronnie Brown - Brown or trade back
2004 Vernon Carey - thought we were ok at OL and would have preferred DL like Wilfork

The only one I was truly happy with was the pick of Tannehill.

Dion Jordan seemed so unnecessary and a poor scheme fit....was very disappointed the team didn't trade for Albert last year and stayed at 12.

2013
Had we stayed where we were I wanted Tyler Eifert, trading down Cordarrelle Patterson, and while I didn't want to lose the 2nd rounder we lost trading up, it seemed best to gran Lane Johnson because I had been screaming all offseason that Jonathan Martin was going to be. Disaster at LT.

2012
Wasn't sure how to gage Tannehill really. He had shown the ability to be extremely accurate with excellent velocity and all the physical and mental tools. But, i didn't focus on him and what I did see was inconsistent. I kind of expected him to stay in school another year initially.

He was a bit raw, but had the ability to be accurate and all the physical and mental aspects you want. He reminded me of a raw Aaron Rodgers, so I was on board with the pick ... but cautious.

2011
I thought Pouncey was good but drafting a C at the highest draft position ever in the NFL was overdrafting. He may eventually become a HoF center like Dwight Stephenson and Jim Langer, but I'm still not sure whether that justifies the draft position.

2010
This draft really bummed me out. In round 1 I wanted Earl Thomas ... then we traded back to recoup a 2nd round pick we had previously traded away. So we took Odrick, which was fine, but no not inspiring. With the 2nd rounder we had a chance to fill a need and select a guy who I thought had true HoF potential and would be a dominant player ... Rob Gronkowski. I was literally jumping up and down excitedly screaming to draft Rob Gronkowski ... and instead we drafted Koa Misi, who was OK, but could have been had in round 3. I've never been so dejected about the draft in my life.

2009
I wanted Clay Matthews and thought we should try to move up a few spots to get him.

2008
Th moment Bill Parcells joined the Dolphins I knew Jake Long would be the pick ... His new Jumbo Elliott. I liked the pick and thought Jake Long was an excellent player who could be the cornerstone of the team for years (and would have been if Tony Sparano hadn't ruined him consistently playing him while injured).

2007
I wanted Adrian Peterson, but he didn't fall quite that far.

2006
I really disliked the Allen Pick. Mediocre player with injuries, projected position change and dumb as a stump.

2005
Aaron Rodgers was who I wanted when he came out ... can't recall if this was 2005 or not though.

2004
Wasn't a fan of Carey, but he turned out to be OK. I can't recall who all was in this draft and I can't look those things up right now.

Sometimes you really wonder how many poster on this forum could have done a better job than some of our recent GMs. Granted Wanny and Sparano would make any GM look poor.

Sheesh....

Every player before 2010 no longer with the team.

That is really our main problem.

3 of them were who I wanted. I wanted Jake, Mike, and Ryan. I wasn't unhappy with the Carey pick at the time cause we needed help and being a UM fan it was a bit of homerism. In retrospect I wish we had taken Wilfork that year instead.

Ireland did a nice job with these four picks.. They're all going to be very good football players.. As four the rest....bwahahahahaa, VD our best pick????? you're on crack, just like his Grandma.. LMAO!

2013-I was with UK in wanting Eifert or a corner. Did not want Lane Johnson near the team. Because we didn't give up anything that valuable to move up even if Jordan doesn't pan out I was okay with the trade.

2012-Once it became obvious that Matt Barkley (who at the time was rated as the number QB behind only Luck) was not entering the draft and RG3 was going 2nd overall I wanted us to either take the gamble on Tannehill or draft Kuechley. Any other player would have been a disappointment based on how the draft unfolded.

2011-Like most I wanted Mark Ingram. Knew Pouncey was a good player, but was uninspired by taking a Center when we did... especially one that struggled quite a bit at times his senior year with the snap. If he keeps his head on straight I'm fine with the pick.

2010-Liked the player having watched him since he was in High School, but the whole trade still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. We had a huge hole at safety, and Earl Thomas fell to our pick. BUT Parcells demanded that we recoup the 2nd round pick we traded for Brandon Marshall, and we took a pretty flat deal from the Chargers (2nd, Tim Dobbins, and swapping 4ths). Again, love Odrick especially now in a 4-3 but missing out on a guy I loved in Earl Thomas makes me sour.

2009-I was fine with the Vontae pick based on talent, and really early on he looked like he'd develop into a great player. Vontae just lacked motivation and was too fond of partying. Our biggest needs at the time were CB and WR so Hakeem Nicks would have probably been a better pick, but you could have made an argument for Clay Matthews (Matt Roth getting injured and having a falling out with the staff, Joey Porter having a falling out and losing production, Cam Wake being an unknown)

2008-Some will say they wanted Matty Ice, and while some did, he wasn't seen as an elite prospect and more of a guy that was the top QB because of a weak class. The top 3 players at the time were Jake and Chris Long and Glenn Dorsey. I figured the pick was between the Longs. Jake was awesome early, but then injuries caught up with him.

2007-I felt like it was best to take a gamble on Brady Quinn since we were in desperate need of a young QB. I also felt CB would have been a good pick, I wanted no part of Ginn though.

2006-Actually really wanted Donte Whitner but the Bills took him at 8. Most here wanted Manny Lawson, Antonio Cromartie, or Santonio Holmes after that happened. Never had real strong feelings towards Allen.

2005-To many, Ronnie Brown was the obvious choice at 2, and at the time I was fine with it. I remember the rumors being that Nick Saban was in love with Alex Smith and would have taken him if the 9ers went a different direction. In hindsight we should have taken the QB from Cal that slid to the Packers.

2004-No problem with the pick, but hated how Spielman traded up one spot to take a player that the Vikings didn't want because he heard the Pats wanted him (they didn't). It drove me insane how Wanny refused to play Carey as a rookie despite how bad our OL was (Wanny didn't like rookies). I probably would have drafted Wilfork even though I didn't have a problem with Carey. IIRC Larry Chester missed the season and Tim Bowens was in and out of the lineup so getting a young DT would have been a good choice.

The bigger issue wasn't the first round picks. While outside of Carey, none got a new contract after their rookie one expired, we got some solid players out of those picks. The issue is A)Most were just that solid not spectacular and B)The rest of the drafts sucked. We had 18 picks combined in 2007 and 2008 and only 1 player is on the team this year (Brandon Fields) and only one other was on the team last year (Paul Soliai)
