TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Security "pat-downs" of fans at Tampa Bay Buccaneers games are unconstitutional and unreasonable, a federal judge ruled Friday, throwing into question the practice at NFL games nationwide.

U.S. District Judge James D. Whittemore issued an order siding with a season-ticket holder who had sued to stop the fan searches that began last season after the NFL implemented enhanced security measures.

I wonder what the fins will do, especially with the superbowl here this year. I personally was annoyed by the process but understood it.

It may be an inconvenience, but the security of 70,000+ others is much more important than a brief pat-down.

This judge was wrong in his ruling.

I totally agree DD28, I don't understand how someone could sue the NFL for using a security tactic to keep fans attending the game safe... society today...

hooray, i hate stupid crap like that. I am not a criminal, don't treat me like one!

But one of the other thousands may be.

And it only takes one to blow up a stadium.

I agree.
I mean I don't like Pat downs but really, it's no more than a tiny inconvenience for safety.

Unconstitutional. Pfft. Rediculous the extremes some will go to twist the interpretation of law simply to make a name for themselves.

Make no mistake, that's what this judge is doing, simply trying to make a name for himself.

On another note, how much of an idiot is this fan who took time out of his life to bring a lawsuit against the NFL to stop a security procedure in a time of hightened danger. Idiot. It's embarrassing to me that our system would even have entertained this lawsuit.

But my problem with the whole pat down is, it doesn't work. Take off your hat, lift up your arms, pat, pat... What exactly are you looking for?

True, pat downs dont really seem to work because the security guards slack at it but that shouldnt be stopped for that reason. Maybe they profile and do an depth search on certain people. Who knows.

The guy who sued and the judge are idiots..hopefully there both there when something pops off.

Ridiculous..

So now when i go to a yankee game in the bronx they wont search me and i will get some stupid drunk Mets fan next to me holding, i have to worry about that now.

Terrorists dont want to attack a football stadium, much less in South Florida. Sorry if that deflates your sense of self worth.

PS- If pat downs by some guys from a temp security agency foils anything, it's not going to be a terrorist attack, it will be a guy smuggling beer into the stadium.

I suppose if something does ever happen then people will try to sue the NFL or the team for not doing enough to keep everyone safe.
These judges are way out of line. They are writing new laws from their bench and that is not their job.

Or some crazy idiot packing heat.
You've got people killing each other over designer tennis shoes in today's world.
Fans at games can get a little crazy and it only takes one psycho to pop a cap in someone because they are pissed their team just got scored on.

You get 70,000 people into one area and it's a good bet at least one of them is a little unstable.

I don't see the problem with security making sure that 1 guy dosen't get into the stadium.

Have you ever heard of someone getting shot at an NFL game before?

This is the stupidest thing ever.

What's wrong with trying to make things a little safer?? It's not a big deal IMO.
