Behind Seattle and Cincinnati.

So, as I combed through all the rosters looking for the teams with the best depth, which doesn't necessarily mean they are the best teams on paper if all the teams stay healthy (but we all know that is unlikely) I arrived at the top two teams and five honorable mention teams.

The honorable mention teams are the Redskins, Buccaneers, Dolphins and a tossup between the Eagles and 49ers. I like Kirk Cousins (Washington), Mike Glennon (Tampa Bay) Matt Moore (Miami) and Mark buttfumble (Philadelphia) and not so sure about Blaine Gabbert, but at least he has 28 starts and the rest of the 49ers' depth is pretty good. As for Washington, Tampa Bay, Miami and Philly, they don't satisfy all the categories but they did better than most teams hitting on at least nine of the 13.

1. Does your team have a real swing offensive tackle, a guy that can play left or right tackle and has experience?

2. Does your team have a solid inside offensive lineman that can play guard or center?

3. Is there a quality second running back that can deliver a 100-yard rushing day if he had to start?

4. Is there a good second tight end on the roster?

5. Can the third wide receiver step up and start in the two-WR packages if a starter went down?

6. Does your team have a designated pass-rush specialist who could play the early downs if need be?

7. Is there a third defensive tackle that not only plays in a rotation but could play the whole game if need be?

8. Is there a quality nickel corner on the roster, since most teams are at least 50 percent sub defenses?

9. Is there a fourth corner for dime packages?

10. Is there a third safety for big nickel defenses?

11. Is there a return specialist that can either handle both punt and kick returns or contribute as a real position player?

12. Does your team have a special teams linebacker that leads the specials and can play inside linebacker in a pinch?

1. Does your team have a real swing offensive tackle, a guy that can play left or right tackle and has experience?

Yup, Albert. But if we move Albert we have no left tackle.

2. Does your team have a solid inside offensive lineman that can play guard or center?

Sure, Pouncey. But again, move Pouncey and we have no center.

3. Is there a quality second running back that can deliver a 100-yard rushing day if he had to start?

Moreno and/or Miller both fill the "second rb" role quite well, but neither are quality "number 1's". Regardless, the answer is yes.

4. Is there a good second tight end on the roster?

Other than hopes and wishes, nope.

5. Can the third wide receiver step up and start in the two-WR packages if a starter went down?

Yes, but like running back, we dont exactly have high quality to begin with despite the divine status Hartline has achieved. Regardless, depth isnt the problem at that position and other players could fill in admirably.

6. Does your team have a designated pass-rush specialist who could play the early downs if need be?

Yes, absolutely.

7. Is there a third defensive tackle that not only plays in a rotation but could play the whole game if need be?

Again: absolutely.

8. Is there a quality nickel corner on the roster, since most teams are at least 50 percent sub defenses?

Hell no. We have hopes for Will Davis, but hes still largely an unknown, we are praying he develops. And no, no one should even bring up Finnegan, obvious bust signing is obvious.

9. Is there a fourth corner for dime packages?

Hopes and wishes at the moment.

10. Is there a third safety for big nickel defenses?

Not one we can rely on.

11. Is there a return specialist that can either handle both punt and kick returns or contribute as a real position player?

I vote yes. Thigpen isnt the greatest of players but he can contribute.

12. Does your team have a special teams linebacker that leads the specials and can play inside linebacker in a pinch?

If we do, he should probably be starting.

We look good if you answer each question in a vacuum, but taken as a whole and its vastly different. We have no real depth on our offensive line. We have no real depth in our secondary. We are relying on young players(Will Davis, Walt Aikens) who havent proven much and players with injury concerns(Jason Fox). I mean, sure, we have people who physically put on pads and are listed as OT's and DB's...but what team doesnt?

And we are comparable to the ****ing Seahawks? Get out of here with that. Good thing the media lies 100% of the time or else people might actually believe we have some quality depth.

Agree that we shouldn't be compared to the Seahawks, but Jimmy Wilson did a pretty decent job at nickel last year.

Your lack of faith in our deep and capable receiving corps is alarming.

Marcus Thigpen is unspectacular at best.

Jason Trusnick: good special team linebacker, poopoo at everything else.

Only thing Miami is on par with on defense with Seattle is D-line depth. Only thing Miami has on Seattle on offense is maybe offensive line and receiver depth. The two are uncomparable.

Oline depth, what depth.

Read it again. Miami has a better offensive line and depth at receiver.

I dont agree they have a better oline period. At this point we have two worthy starters

The questions were from the OP's link and were on depth not starters.

depth or starters there is no evidence we have an edge on Seattle.
They have a pro bowl LT and a pro bowl C much like us.
They also have another lineman that has started 26 games since being drafted in James Carpenter while we have no one that has started a full season beyond our top two guys.
We drafted a 2nd round player in the first and they drafted a similar player in the second that may have also been overdrafted

You didnt think all this was going to be addressed in one offseason did you?

 Are you being serious?? We were bad last year and unless we bring in a starting caliber OG or Benton can pull a rabbit out of his hat the argument can be made that we are worse this year. If Shelly ends up starting we will be MUCH worse.

I don't see how you can say our O-line is worse on paper than last season's O-line. Seattle's, though, is better. They suffered a lot of injuries to the unit last season. Testament to the rest of the team that they were able to win a SB with the O-line performing so far under expectations (largely due to injury).

It could possibly be since guard is a huge question going into the season and who knows with RT.
We have two guys on roster that have proven they can start. Last year we had 5 and we sucked
