Now dont get me wrong I think Pat White would run the wildcat quite well. But isn't a very important key to the success of the wildcat the element of surprise. When the team is in the huddle its a normal formation but when they break the huddle the QB splits out wide. Then the defense has to react If everytime pat white is on the field we run the wildcat wouldnt that kinda defeat the purpose?

what if Pat whites the QB who lines up wide?

EH?

Pennington was almost always (save for one play against Houston) useless int he wildcat. But you put White out there, and theres an actual player who needs to be covered just like any other wr. All of a sudden, the quick slant to White can;t be ignored. Ronnie might not have a great arm but i am certain he can throw a slant.

If White goes into the game, teams will go "light" taking out a front 7 player with a secondary player coming in.. That's fine. Just line up in the Wildcat with that offensive line imbalance and have White hand the ball off to Ronnie for 6 yard per carry averages against that front.

When the defense tries to stack more people upfront after pounding them running the ball, that's where the genius of the Pat White selection comes into play..

You can say goodnight at that point. White will create plenty of mismatch problems for defenses.

I think the only way that Pat white will work is if hes either inthere as the starting QB on other plays or playing many other positions and then that elemnt of surprise is still there. I do think Pennington still has to be covered though if you leave him completly alone then he can get the ball unless the CB reads run inwitch no QB is really gonna block that good on a regular basis. I think just using White as several diffrent positions such as a screen pass to white that goes long but If Pennington is the starting QB i dont think the wildcat would work very well taking Pennington out and putting White in

with pennington, all the CB had to do was stay within 10 ft of him, and he's covered. the LB to that side didn't even have worry about him. And the safety didn't even bother. Pennington didn't even run a route either. Im not saying Pat white will be out wide instead of pennington everytime, but putting a guy out there who needs tobe covered will spread the defense out, leaving less guys in the middle to tackle ronnie.

Quote by former WVU Owen Schmitt FB when interviewed by Seattle Seahawks Insider:

“Q: How different is the offense here from the one you ran at West Virginia?
Schmitt: Oh, God. We had 12 plays there. Literally. And we ran six of them.
Q: Give it to Slaton?
Schmitt: Yeah. Literally, we had 12 and ran six. Maybe. At the most.”

Anyway, there was no surprise about WVU's offense. Everybody knew what plays they would run. Stopping it depends on defenders making open field tackles (once you spread them out) which is the hardest thing to do in football.

This is precisely why Pat White will also be lined up at slot receiver at times.

I think that's great.. If other teams couldn't stop White when other defenses knew what he was going to do in college, and had such a limited playbook, just wait until he hits an NFL playbook and the minds of our braintrust.

Furthermore, WV went to a Pro Style offense last season with I formations. And White excelled in it.
