Do you think the Dolphins will use during the season a Pat White red zone package? (Maybe not from the 1 or 2-that's Polite territory-but like from the 3, 4, or 5 yard line.) Put White in as QB, Ricky and/or Ronnie and/or Cobbs behind, whatever TE/WR grouping you want, bootleg, Pat runs it in or pitches it or fires one of his trademark quick darts to a crossing receiver or a RB in the flats? It seems like he ran that package a million times at WVU, wouldn't that be difficult to defend even in the NFL? The bootleg seems to compensate for his lack of height (giving him a clear throwing lane). With receivers like Turner and Fasano (big targets) and the threat of our RBs to run, I could see that being a high percentage package. Or am I seeing the world through aqua tinted lenses?

If we had anyone else as QB but Penny I might be worried the starter would pout over losing TDs but I'm confident Chad P only cares about the W's.

we used wildcat on the goal line a couple of times last year.. I'd imagine Pat would get some looks.
If our short run game is not improved we will have to result to this more.. hopefully the interior works well and stays healthy..
The boot can only work so many times, if the defense knows you're going to boot, they'll be prepared on that side of the field.. However, pat white should work well in space, i wouldnt be suprised if he had 5 rushing TDs from inside the 20

i dont think theyd let pat white throw it near the goal line with his limited experience but i could see him being in there and running it or handing it to ronnie or ricky.. or for that matter polite

Simple Answer, No, but you never know. If it was me I would want my best QB out there to try and put 6 up. A QB, and a rookie one at that, just entering the game is more likely to throw a pick 6 than a TD. So I would rather have Ronnie back there. Hitting a hole and getting 3 yards. Or play-action with our most accurate QB.

Seems to me the Dolphins tried that against the Jets last year...their best QB...THREE TIMES Throwing and what happened? A fieldgoal.

3 is better than -6. It may have not worked, but do I really need to bring up the dreaded out pattern again (see AJ FEELEY). There are plenty of games where he did complete the TD. And considering his TD:INT ratio compared to any QB we had since #13. I'll take my chances with him throwing it not Pat White at least for this year. Next year is a differnet story. I know I trust Henne more this year than last in goal line situations.

I would love to see White in the red-zone offense but his knowledge of the game isn't high enough yet. Sure, Penny's weakness is throwing in the red zone. His percentage plummets the closer he gets to the goal line because he lacks the space to float balls in. Pat White would be good because you would have to put a hat on him in case he runs, but at the same time he has the arm to squeeze a pass in between defenders, unlike Penny. The only thing with White is his decision making and experience is lacking and that would be a big negative. There's a lot more potential for mistakes in the red-zone with the defense compressed so he'd have to learn the offense and defensive coverage schemes pretty damned well before I'd throw him into that situation. The last thing we want is a turnover in that situation. That's one way to lose a football game.

I think Pat White's skill sets will increase our Red Zone TDs. His running and passing skills will be far better than CPs. Remember the game last year what Houston did to us with a QB draw. With Polite and Ronnie in front of him on a bootleg he will be almost impossible to defend.

I think the red zone is the first place we could see Pat White line up in packages. The versatility could be helpful in capping off drives with touchdowns, which was something we didn't do enough of last year.

I'm sure he'd have specific instructions on passing situations. 1 or 2 reads off the play action, and if it's not there, tuck it down and run or throw it away. On one hand, he'd be perfect for those situations, on the other, the throws are tighter, so it's more dangerous.

Also, you could expect to see Pat White in on some third down packages. Normally that kind of versatility is coveted on 3rd & Short, but I think the Dolphins' normal package was fine in 3rd & Short situations. Ronnie could run it, Lou Polite became damn near automatic, and when asked to complete something short Chad Pennington could do that as well. It was not a problem area.

Where you could use it, I think, is 3rd & Long. The Dolphins were TERRIBLE in 3rd & Long situations a year ago. Pennington wasn't getting the job done on those plays. I just re-watched the second Patriots game and they had this incredible stat that I had forgotten about which said the Dolphins were something like 1 of 38 on 3rd & 10 or more, or something like that. Whatever it was, it was a ridiculous stat. The Dolphins happen to have converted a pair of 3rd & Longs during the first half of the Pats game, which was surprising...but overall it's something the Dolphins need a lot of work at.

That's where I think White's versatility could help. I remember when Mike Vick first got in the league, 3rd & 15 seemed as makeable for that team as 3rd & 5. It was ridiculous. In college, Pat was known as a walking 40 yard play. Either way, it was an obvious deficiency of the offense's under Pennington's direction for whatever reason, whether that be Pennington's lack of arm strength or the Dolphins' lack of go-to receiver...and I think it could be an area of first opportunity for Pat White to try and work himself in on packages.

Keeping in mind that in order to put Pat White into those packages, they would have to trust him implicitly. That would mean not throwing many interceptions in training camp, and then in preseason not turning the ball over once.

I like Pat White on the bench for 2009. Maybe in 2010 he could throw the ball around some...

I agree that White could add a lot to our 3rd and Long situations. I will say, though, that Miami did significantly improve in that area toward the end of last year - starting, I believe, with that Pats game. During the last few weeks we were about average.

I never actually thought of that but it sounds like a good idea. Id rather Pat White in a red zone offense than goal line offense...if we are in goal line depending on the down we are on id rather just run it...but if we are in the red zone , a place where we lacked in tds last year...that opens up alot of options for white and makes the game a lil easier for him...as far as if u dont have the pass just run ...we wanna gain yards in the red zone and not lose them with sacks or turn overs so this will be a great way to get him involved...it sucks tho to drive ur team down the field and then have white come in to finish the job...kinda like ricky running for 60 yards then ronnie coming in and running it in for a score.. either way i dont think anyone would be mad if we score though...might have to draft white on my fantasy team
