The move would come roughly six months after he joined the long line of former players suing the NFL for concussion-related injuries, according to Nathan Fenno of the Washington Times.
White, a second-round draft pick of the Miami Dolphins in 2009, saw his playing career flame out quickly as he was released before the start of the 2010 season. According to the report, White alleged that he suffered “repeated and chronic head impacts” during his short NFL career that put him at risk for “latent brain disease.”
In the lawsuit, White claimed he suffered permanent injuries, including “severe headaches, speech issues, memory loss, depression, isolation, mental anguish and diminished self-esteem.”
He must be feeling better about himself now. Fenno reports that White dismissed his lawsuit on Tuesday. He was part of more than 4,000 former players involved in litigation against the NFL.
It should be noted that White also attempted to dabble in professional baseball after playing for the Dolphins. It goes without saying that claims without merit will only harm the efforts of former players with serious cognitive injuries to be compensated. We are not saying White’s claims were without merit, but if he’s dismissed his lawsuit and is actively seeking a chance to play again, one must question if his injuries were as permanent as he asserted.
