Pat White mechanics

Good read... Hope the kid can keep proving doubters wrong... Liked the part about not beleiving what Saben was telling him :)

Could this tinkering with White's mechanics explain some of the erratic throws so far in training camp? If so he will probably adjust and grow out of these problems. Just a thought.

I hope they don't change it too much, the guy completed 64% of his passes in college for over 6,000 yards...it didn't work too well for Beck last year and I hope they don't go too far with White..

Really would rather see how Chad Henne is doing and check back on Pat White 2-3 yrs from now....Henne is the Future and White is here for the Trick stuff?

I don't know who all has been watching the practice "highlights", but you can really tell the difference with his throws. He has shortened it up quite a bit. I remember seeing one clip with White and Henne throwing side-by-side and they both got the ball off at almost the exact same time. That's a good sign with White.

His erratic passes are to be expected from time to time when you change his kind of delivery. Throughout all camp reports anytime someone mentions a bad pass by White it is usually an over throw sometimes a fluttery ball.. better than an under throw in most cases.

Pat White interview on miamidolphins.com- White was asked why they wanted to change is delivery, he answered with "to keep the balls from floating on me." That is exactly why you shorten a QB's delivery and so to see balls float on him should not come as a surprise this early.

The main thing is to see a noticable change in his delivery, which we have, and some improvement with accuracy as training camp goes along. We will see about the latter.

I think too much is being expected of White too soon. Very few QB's are ready to contribute from day one in the NFL.

I agree. No matter what Sparano says, White will be in shotgun with ronnie right behind him. the base wildpat will be handoff to ronnie or pat takes it....what happens after that is going to be exciting!

Dude will be best on the run. hard to cover with 8 guys in the box.

Pat white will be fine. Remember he is just a rookie. Give him time folks. He will have enough time on the bench to develop. Its not like we need him to play the first day.

Thankfully we have penninton and henne ahead of him. I believe they will fix a couple of plays for him in the regular season. If it works then they will continue giving him reps. If not then we will still implement the wild cat just like last year.

We have the crew to do it. Ginn, Ricky Ronnie. I believe thats why it worked last year. Because we have a couple of runningbacks that can start for any team. And the third one is cobbs which isnt bad for a third stringer.

We might have the best RB depth in the NFL.

If they changed his delivery to stop him from floating balls isn't it a bad sign that he is still floating balls. I feel like if he changed his mechanics to make him throw lower he would be putting more balls into the ground accidentally than floating it.

That would normally be true. But Pat White is a Dolphin, so he cannot be questioned.

It takes time to change a motion that you have been used to for years. Muscle memory is not very easy to change. So, when changing a fundamental movement that has become a thoughtless process into a process that will require some thought will never work in a very short amount of time. He will occasionally go back to his old habits until he has practiced the new motion enough times that it becomes instinct. It will take time, but if he works hard enough he will be fine.

He has never been known, throughout his career, as a passer who was to duff a ball into the turf, he was known for floating longer balls and routes that required more touch. His delivery had a role in dictating that.

Changing one's delivery is not something that happens over night. It takes time. To expect a rookie QB to change his technique/mechanics within one short offseason without some slip ups in his delivery is a bit over the top.

With White's delivery, the one he had in college, it took him longer to get the ball out of his hand and there was less consistency with his long ball because of the longer delivery. More can go wrong with your release the further your arm has to travel throughout its' throwing motion. That was his main hit coming out into the draft. What was said over and over was "he is not all that accurate."

This is true to an extent. He never had a problem hitting a receiver with throws like: a dump off over the middle, throws the the flat, curls, hitches, in and out routes or even intermediate post or flag routes. His issue was consistency with the longer routes that either took longer to develop and required more touch and also the long ball. This is why in the combine, by all accounts, he was throwing the ball better than every QB out there, but you also heard "he has problems with his consistency as an accurate passer."

So with knowing that his issue has been floating passes on mostly longer balls and his kind of delivery; we know that when trying to change his throwing motion he is going to have goofs throwing the football, and that is what we are seeing/hearing right now.
