How the Dolphins plan to use rookie quarterback Pat White -- if at all -- in Sunday's opener at Atlanta remains a guarded secret.

But offensive coordinator Dan Henning, speaking to the media for the first time this season, let this nugget of information slip Thursday: The team is convinced White could run the base offense successfully, if needed.

``If he has to go in the game, I'm confident that we're in a position, right now, we can manage Pat, we can win with him, and I think he's going to get better as the year goes on,'' Henning said.

For years some on this site some, including myself at times, have thought that the O or D were holding something back for the regular season. With the exception of the Wildcat, it never happened. And, the wildcat may have been installed midseason -- I'm not sure.

We all have had hopes through the years that something special was going to get popped on an opponent. Marcus Vick was going to have some special package. Culpepper was being brought along slowly. Harrington had a great deep ball. The OL will gel. Beck is practicing with 1st team O. It goes on and on.

My point is that we shouldn't expect Pat to do anything. He may have some super secret role. I won't hope or believe in any such thing until I see him (a) active on a Sunday (b) enter a game.

I don't think there is much of a mystery.. He's still fairly green as a QB. He won't look good against good defenses at the moment. We haven't heard anything because there isn't anything to tell.. I expect White to be inactive as the 3rd string QB Sunday.. and likely almost all season.

Hopefully we see some of him in the wildcat. I like what the eagles did on a couple plays with vick during preseasn, like fake running and then pitching the ball to the rb. Could be a real dangerous formation.

Henne being 2nd or 3rd doesnt change anything in his case as the only reason he enters the game is if CP gets hurt. While White can come in in different situations. So Pat White listed 2nd mkes sense IMO...

The reason its such a mystery to everyone is because we spent a 2nd round pick on him....now what?

Isn't it a good thing that it's a mystery?

The Wildcat was a mystery to Belicheck in Week 4 last year. That turned out OK.

I'd rather be surprised by White's role along with the Fins opponents, rather than knowing their plans for Pat.
