Not being drafted, Patrick found his way into the NFL by signing a free agent contract with the New England Patriots last summer. Patrick led the Patriots in rushing in the pre-season before being traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers waived him after their opening game of 2006.
After being released by the Steelers, Patrick was picked up by the Dolphins and appeared in three games for them playing on special teams. “It went real well and I had a lot of fun. The special teams coaches really liked me.†Patrick said of his time on the active roster and the field for the Dolphins.
“I've been hitting it pretty hard this off-season. I've been working as hard as I've ever worked. The trainer actually told me to slow down so I don't wear my body down. Things are going all right, though; my body is holding up.â€Â
Patrick is excited about the new offensive scheme that Cameron has brought to Miami. “It will benefit us; we'll be a better team with this offense. I like the system and hope to get to play in it, it is completely different than our old offense.â€Â
Even though he likes the offense, Patrick knows that he has to prove himself all over again to the new coaches. “It will be interesting, who knows,†said the former Savage, “I've just got to keep working hard andsee what shakes out.â€Â
