Marvez Q&A
Q: With the emergence of Will Poole, which cornerback do you think will eventually be traded?

A: My feeling is the Dolphins will part ways with Patrick Surtain, as he will be entering the final year of his contract in 2005 and the team has no interest in giving him the type of contract extension he is seeking. Surtain could be traded to land draft choices or a veteran who could fill a need on Miami's 2005 roster. But whatever team trades for Surtain must be ready to sign him to a lucrative extension, which will affect the dynamics of a deal.

sounds reasonable considering Poole and Howard's age and Madison's new contract, but it sux

I wouldn't mind a Shaun Alexander for Patrick Surtain deal.
we'll throw in Ricky Williams and some Thai stick

Pat is a great guy and player, btu for the future of this team, the defense, and our salary cap, we need to let go of some of our defensive players in order to spread the wealth across the entire team. The evidence that Pat has a chronic knee problem only makes that choice even more important.

With the emrgence of Poole and signing Howard, it is writing on the wall that one will go and since Pat is up for renewal in 05 it only fits. I hate to see him go and we had better get more than what we got for Wale, shut down corners are really hard to find. pat is a top 3 CB.

Funny how I got ripped on that one a couple weeks ago. With Surtain's knee flaring up again it could very well happen.

Note he is signed in 2005...just for a high number so they got plenty of time to trade him if they play their cards right.

ill still rip it

this sucks, shutdown corners are hard to come by and this guy is a top 3 CB in the league.... not someone you want to let go. I rather us lose madison but financially, its not gonna happen. I almost would rather see PS retire because of his knee than have him suit up for another team in the NFL. wouldnt that suck if he was a Jet, a Bill, or even worse... A PAT!

AHHHHHH MOMMY!

There is ZERO chance for a Shawn Alexander for Patrick Surtain trade to go down. Unless Ken Lucas and Marcus Trufaunt completely suck this year.

we need to be active next offseason. we need some cap to be effective on offense. i mean if we had cap-room for our offense, we would have signed damion woddy or john tait, no knock on st.clair, but hes neither of those 2. trading surtain and maybe seau isnt a bad idea.

salary caps suck!!
Yeah, but if there was no cap, we would have a Cowboys vs. Redskins NFC championship game every singal year.

See MLB and the NY Yankees

Surtain is still pretty young and is a top 5 CB. Trading him would be a mistake and definitely would not get equal value for him. Howard is only one year younger than him and isn't that good anyway. If we are going to get rid of one of our corners, Madison should be the one to go.

I wouldn't get Rid of Pat. He is one of those guys that needs to be here till he can't go any more. He seems like a great kid off the field as well and that coupled wiht his play and likability, I just think you can't get rid of him.
