Patrick Surtain's last year as Phin ?

maybe seau isnt a bad idea.
The only place seau is going is the retirement home, he's not getting traded. He doesn't have much NFL life left in him.

Surtain is still pretty young and is a top 5 CB. Trading him would be a mistake and definitely would not get equal value for him. Howard is only one year younger than him and isn't that good anyway. If we are going to get rid of one of our corners, Madison should be the one to go.
again, thats not financially possible because of his contract. rumor has it madison wants to retire a fin and will play nickel if needed and take a paycut to a nickel salary. after seeing his house on MTV cribs, **** I wouldnt wanna move either

Howard is the same way, if we traded him we would eat a huge hit on the cap next year. I would trade howard if any of our CB's but getting rid of surtain is the best FINANCIAL decision.... which I am completely against

Trade/get rid of seau. Bua can fill in. We need a DT and RB/Oline help. Also, I dont think Sammy Knight is playing that well. He might be on the chopping block. I wouldnt mind seeing Freeman AND Edwards as our safeties.....

Iceblizzard and 4Dfins...you are missing the key issue here, Pat most likely has a CHRONIC knee issue, meaning, not going ot get better and only worse. If we keep him around there is a chacne we could get stuck with paying a high price, for someone always hurt, and then have to eat not only the monetary output but the fact we have a player who doesn't perform.

This sounds brutal, but as it goes, this is business now in the NFL and you have to think this way.

If Pat goes, it is because of the knee. Unfortunately, that will also mean that we get considerably less than Wale for him. I hate to suggest letting him go for a 2nd, but that may be where the team is at...

This is the main point. It really is flaring up too much too comfortably pay Surtain large for something that could be a big problem in 2 years. If we can get some picks for him before everyone in the league catches on then so be it.

I'd rather trade Madison than Surtain..right?
does not work cap-wise since we re-negotiated Sam w/up front money and such and Pat will expect huge $$$$ next year.

And Pat does deserve Huge $$$$ next year.. and seeing him go would be a sad day for me, Surtain is an awesome player.. and Ide like to keep him..

Theres gotta be other big money players on the team that we can let go before Surtain, Ide like to see us do everything possible to keep him

how many games did PS start last year? he will have missed half the games already this year on Sunday...and wasn't he hurt during pre season??? hmm...not good

If Pat is healthy, I have to think an extension will get done. The knee is the key. Repeat until calm. None of you guys actually wants us to have tons of dead cap from signing Pat to a long contract and then having him not able to play, do you?

I think a lot of people are missing the point here. It's not who would rather have go, it's who will go because of the circumstances (Health and $$$)...

Now I believe Pat's cap number is somewhere around $8 million next season... Which would mean a team would have to pony up some big bucks to aquire him, not to mention a high compinsation for a guy who is getting older and is consistanly hurting due to his knee problems...

So we are not talking another O-gun situation here. I'de be suprised to get a 3rd round pick for Pat (and that's if we get lucky), only because of the money he wants, his age, and his knee problems.

I'm the last to be doom and gloom. But it's true

With the age of our defense, this could be the last year for it to be all together. I expect alot of changes made, this could be the last season for Jr, Sammy Knight, Tim Bowens. Shutdown corners are hard to come by in the league and I think he is definately a top 5 CB in the NFL, possibly the 2nd best in the AFC behind only Champ, I think he and Madison are the best tandem in the league.

You people are nuts if you think we're gonna give up our best corner, possibly THE best corner next to champ baily. We just gave surtain an extention this off season. It was a short extention but an extention at that. If we part ways with any corner it will be madison because of his age. We are giving BIG bucks to Sam Madison and that money can be used to extend Surtains contract and more. oh and btw Howard is nothing better then a #2 or #3 corner. Surtain and Madison are both #1 corners. Poole still has a year to get to that level, and thats IF he makes it through his rookie season. Surtain will stay a phin plain and simple.

He started 15 Games last year........Not enough?

BTW...he IS playing on Sunday.

He has missed 3 starts in his Whole Career. What are you talking about?

Degenerative Knee my A$$....Where has he missed time? Please point it out to me. 3 starts....he has missed....in 6 years as a starter.

i would say madison but his cap figures would make it hard to move him but if we could ...no doubt...one will be gone.....but i would trade our whole defense for L Tomlinson ...i know but i've been good and thats what i want from santa...by the way i wouldnt really trade our whole defense....
