Willis (6-1, 237 pounds) ran the 40-yard dash in 4.37 and 4.38. He also had a 4.37 short shuttle and 7.10 three-cone drill. He stood on his numbers from the Combine for the rest. He had a phenomenal workout and clearly made several seven-figure increments in his rookie contract.

From Football's Future:

Linebacker Patrick Willis wowed scouts with a 4.37 40-yard dash during Mississippi's Pro Day. Willis, already a first round lock, could see his stock rise even further after this performance. He'll be given serious consideration by some teams in the top ten spots on draft day.

He should get serious consideration, IMO, when Miami picks. Miami is not necessarily young at LB, nor does Miami have great depth. Obviously, he is not the sexiest pick at 9, but DAMN that's fast for an already awesome LB!

I have been expecting him to crack the Top 10 ever since I heard about those 40 times. He and Crowder would really solidify the LB spots for the indefinite future.

At this point I will be happy with any of the following at 9: Willis, Carriker, Hall, Ginn, Brown.

The Lions are reportedly very high on Willis, though, not at the 2nd spot. Some believe they will trade out of that spot for picks, although, we've known that for awhile now.

Agreed although I am still not sold on Ginn Jr. I would just as soon reach for Greg Olsen who I think would have just as much of an impact on our offense.

we dont need to reach at #9, it would be a bad way to start off the draft, hopeing theres a good pick here or trade out

Willis is not a reach to me at 9 and to me, he leapfrogs Alan Branch and Okoye because he is such a good LB and MLB are leaders of defenses. That makes his value better than the others. To me he is in the landry area for sure.

I think this is where needs come into play. I know the theory is BPA but some postions require emphasis if all else is equal. That means even though Willis or Landry may be better prospects at 9 than Brown, Brown takes a little presedence because of the position (supply and demand). Zach will be our ILB and rarely does he get hurt and if he does, we have Pope. I would not scream at gettin Willis though at 9 for sure. I think Buffalo would love him and If we started to talk Willis, Buffalo would give up some picks to assure getting him IMO.

Willis would be a great pick at #9 and if he slips by us Buffalo will likely take him. Also does anyone know what Jason Taylors main position will be this season because if he plays more of a linebacker role Miami could possibly take Amobi Okoye.

I cant see him falling past 15....Its either the Bills,Rams or Steelers...If he falls past 15 i give up.

1221, I think we tend to get rapped up in these mock drafts and take them at face value. Big mistake because every team is changing their views on players every day and their boards are changing, therefore, you have to look at what teams are salivating over this guy right now. I certainly would. He is a MLB for crying out loud! He is great sideline to sideline and 4.35 speed. Great instincts.

That to me is not a reach.

I would find out what teams are really salivating over him and start talking the guy up when on the phone with these teams. I am thinking there are many teams in the 11-20 area that are just dying to get him. We talking trade down? Here is one way to achieve that.

The thing that makes the 40 times so impressive is that his best quality is his instincts. When you combine good initial instincts with a 4.37 40, you have the making of a GREAT player. He is also good off the field as I have heard he does a lot of community service work.

i like the idea of trading down too, it would help us alot to get some additional draft picks! :cooldude:
