The Patriots reportedly haven’t even reached out to Wilfork’s agent, Kennard McGuire, to discuss a contract, indicating there’s a pretty good chance Wilfork could become available if he makes it through the next 16 days without being tagged.

Interesting, could mean they just plan on tagging him and don't want to hear him cry about it. Or, it could also mean they don't plan to resign him. I do know this, I would take Wilfork over Dansby any day of the week.

I disagree, Miami needs Dansby more then Wilfork. Getting Dansby is a must. Can you imagine Dansby and McClain together, those two would make up a nasty LB crew.

Even if wilfork becomes an UFA, I can't see him signing with us. He has made no secret about his hate for the dolphins and I just see his comments about "coming home" to play in FL is more his attempt to "threaten" the patriots to pay up than his desire to don the aqua and orange. If he plays in FL next year, it will be as a buccaneer or jaguar.

Floating around this board is a interview with Vince about 2 weeks ago were he says he wants to come to Miami.

There is no reason we can't have both Dansby and Wilfork IF 2010 becomes a uncapped year! Structure their contract so that they are paid the bulk of it in 2010 incase a salary cap is reinstated 2011 and beyond. Who cares it isn't our money! For the life of me I don't know why so many posters on this board say I don't want to pay him this or that?!!?!?! Please it is Ross's money he is a friggin billionaire 6 times over! Spend spend spend Steven we want a Lombardi Trophy! Just let Ireland and Parcells structure it so it is paid upfront in a uncapped year! Serious why do we care if Ross only makes 50 million off the Dolphins in 2010 as opposed to 150 million?

Now if a CBA is reached, well that is a different story! I would still want Wilfork over Dansby. Carlos is a solid ILB, but he is no where near the dominant force at ILB that Wilfork is a NT! I guarantee you ask Sparano, Henning, and our oline coach and they will tell you they spend countless hours preparing to stop Wilfork! Getting him makes both DE's and ILB's waaaaaaaaaaay better!

if we sign dansby we will not draft mcclain.

Wilfork may be saying he would love to come to Miami, but I don't trust that its genuine. That is what he should say because it will only drive his value up. He wants a long term deal and wants to be paid. A great way to help you get both is to say threaten your team by saying you want to play for a division rival and that you will be disruptive if they franchise you.

I don't get some people, Nose Tackle is the most important part of a 3-4 defense. If you have a chance to sign the best one in the game, you do it. Go check out our run defense when Ferguson went down, its not that good.

no offense but how can u stomach another year with crowder? he is brutual and if wilson is getting released i dont see how his sorry as* is not gonna get cut either...no thanks, gotta make the linebacker position a priority...having Dansby and McClain would be a good start

Check out the films how bad Crowder was. Don't get me wrong I would love it if Wilfork and Dansby both signed here. If you told me today I have one choice to pick both of them, I would take Dansby in a NY minute.

In the end it's the money that talks, Wilfork has made it very clear in several interviews that his families security comes first. He understands that his talents are peaking now and he needs to cash in. Be it with the Pats or any other team, Wilfork has seen first hand how the Pats treat their players, they don't think twice about cutting a player loose, to them its business plain and simple........

Not to mention its easier to find lightining in a bottle when it comes to LB's in the draft. Not so easy with 3-4 DT's. They are very unique considering there is a maximum of only 20 starting 3-4 DT's in the league (that's only if 20 teams run a 3-4 which I think it's much less then that). Go get LB's in the draft and sign Wilfork.

If we get Dansby, we will not draft McClain. Doesn't make sense to have both of those guys for only 60% of the defensive plays. One will have to come out when we go to Dime coverage and potentially even Nickel (although they could play both in the Nickel).

Obviously, signing Wilfork would shore up the NT position for us for the next 5-7 years. Plus, the moment he signs with us or any other team besides New England, the Patriots "dynasty" would be officially over. If he makes it to free agency, I think we will take a look at him, but I honestly don't know if the odds are very high of us signing him.

Wilfork is definitely looking to get his guaranteed money (6 yr rookie deal) that all UFA's get once they hit the open market. The Patsies are not going to give it to him because I believe they view him as a part time player. He isn't much of a threat as a pass rusher so the Patsies will use that against him therefore creating the same angst they created with Deon Branch and Asante Samuel. Both players had shortcomings that the Patsies were not willing to pay for. They were half right on that one. But don't think for a minute the Patsies let a valuable asset walk away for nothing.
