Easy to see that the Pats got ripped off by getting a (lowly) 2nd for Vrabel and Cassell.

I wonder how they are going to feel when Brady get knocked in the teeth a few times and starts throwing off-target due to "happy-feet" in the pocket?

My thoughts........? Brady is on the slippery downward slope and will never be able to regain his 2007 form. Older, slower, more fragile.

This is the beginning of the end of the Pats.

You heard it here first.

No they didn't. While Brady will most likely never be as great as he once was, he's still going to be a top three quarterback as long as he is healthy (and I'm sure by them trading Cassell, they are 100% sure he is). Vrabel is almost done and Cassell could very well be a one year wonder who fits perfectly into that system and they got basically a 1st round pick for both of them. I would LOVE for it to blow up in their face but the Pats know what they are doing.

Hmmm, I think they did get ripped. They could have had at least one first rounder for Cassell by himself. Vrabel could have commanded a 4th.

As for Brady himself, he will start to slide. And, the sliding will become worse as his protection starts to fade.

The Pats do everything for a reason. They would never trade anyone without knowing they got the most for their money. Remember, it's not Speilman running the show up there. I think they know that they caught lightning in a bottle with Cassel and don't want to pay him 14M to sit on the bench, so they got a high draft choice for him. That pick is essentially a late first rounder, which would be the max they would get for him and Vrabel.

I kind of think that they did get jobbed on this one. The general consensus is that the Patsies do everything for a reason that ultimately benefits them, but remember...Pioli was the guy who pulled the trigger on all of those shrewd deals and he's in K.C. now.
It's hard to imagine that in this quarterback driven league that some desperate team wouldn't offer up a first rounder for a qb who won 11 games last season. As far as Vrabel is concerned, he may be on the downside of his stellar career, but I still think he's worth a low round pick. No my friends, I think Pioli got one over on his old boss this time ;)

the pats didnt want the number 3 pick neither do the chiefs. so they took the next best thing. now they dont have to pay the 14-15 mil for cassel and they got to make sure that he and mike went to a week out of division team. they saved a ton of money. and that may be worth more than an extra pick

PATS DID NOT GET RIPPED OFF!!!!

this was bill b's parting gift to the guy who helped
rescue his dead and ying career as a head coach.

i am sure this was all done before the ink was dry on pioli's
kc contract. he is helping his good friend get a head start
on building that franchise AND saving HUGE money that the
pats are notoriously alergic to paying. and grey bear vrabel
went also. escalating age and salary.

and, the best thing about the whole deal? we get MATT CASSEL
out of the afc east!!!! it was looking like after brady was gone we
were going to have another elite qb throwing all over us for another
10 years in new england. now, cassel may not get the rings that
brady has [it takes a whole team and coaching staff], but he IS
a better qb than brady, stronger, better arm, faster, accurate and
can read a defense.

glad he is GONE!!!!!

Think about this. If the Pats held out longer, they would be dead in Free agency. You need the cap space to sign people.

Vrabel was due a 1 million dollar roster bonus on Monday and his back is really trashed at this point.

It didn't cost the Pats anything for Cassel and they got a second rounder.

Here's the result of sending off their backup qb that they were going to cut free this year before Brady went down.

1) They cleared 14+ million in cap space.
2) They picked up a early second round pick in a draft that's heavy in linebackers and DBs.
3) They saved 4 million in the cap hit by trading Vrabel.

Now, let's see what they've done with those draft picks before.

1) Picked up Brady for a comp 6th round pick.
2) Picked up Cassell for a 7th round pick.
3) Picked up Moss for a 4th round pick.
4) Picked up Welker for a 2nd round pick
5) Picked up Dillon for a 2nd round pick.

The question is who they are going to land next. Do you really think they don't know what they are doing?

THis is a great trade ,BB does a favour for vrabel as it being reported he was to be cut but because of the trade he will get his March 1st bonus.

Now bb has 3 2nd round pick , pick 34 from KC ,pick 47 from SD from last year

I'm loving it.

The Ryan family has a reputation for putting bounties on players. Watch Scott wreck Brady's knee early in the season and the Pats are forced to turn to O'Connel in route to a 5-11 season.

As a Pats fan the Vrabel part of this trade really took me by surprise. The Pats had to either franchise Cassell or let him walk with no compensation. My take is the putting the franchise tag on Cassell really constrained the Pats in terms of cap room. If they didn't move Cassell they couldn't do much else and they have other long term needs (e.g., Wilfork, they could use help in the secondary, etc.). I also don't think they really wanted a high first round pick, again because of the salary cap implications. I can only speculate that the Pats were also thinking that Vrabel was no longer worth the money and I wonder if they had plans to cut him? Again, completely speculating. I have no idea what, if any other offers were on the table for Cassell. And I feel that just a 2nd round pick was less than I expected. But the Pats did need to move him.

It's been confirmed that the Bucs did offer a 1st & a 3rd, but the paperwork for the KC deal was already filed with the league office.

BB pulled the trigger a couple days early. As soon as Vrabel passed his physical, the deal was done.

I think this shows us all that the brains behind the personnel moves for the Patriots was Piloi. The Patriots used to take people to the cleaners regarding trades, but KC just took the Patriots to the cleaners. Pioli was a major loss for them.

I don't know about ripped off, they only gave away assets they had no real use for. Vrabel is done and Cassel is just going to sit anyway. The Chiefs i would say however got a steal, since they got two starters for a second round pick. Anytime you can get two starters for a draft pick it's always a good thing.
