Ginn gets look
The Patriots hosted Ohio State wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. on a pre-draft visit today at Gillette Stadium.
The 5-foot-11, 178-pound Ginn, who enters the draft following his junior season, is one of the top receivers in a deep class. He is also a dynamic returner.
In the BCS championship game against Florida, Ginn returned the opening kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown. He sprained his left foot in the ensuing celebration and missed the rest of the game. Ginn had not worked out for scouts prior to April 11.
"It wasn’t really me celebrating. It was more of just (telling teammates) not to grab," Ginn said of his injury at the Combine in February. "I usually just hand the ball to the officials. Being so excited and my team being so excited, it just shows that you’ve got to keep all your cool and stay calm and do the things you do all the time."
NFL teams are allowed up to 30 visits with out-of-town prospects before the draft. The purposes of the visits vary, from double-checking medical records, to creating a smokescreen for other teams, to genuine interest.
In addition to Ginn, the Patriots also hosted Fresno State defensive back Marcus McCauley on a visit at Gillette Stadium. The 6-foot, 203-pound McCauley was considered to be a top prospect after his junior season but has slipped after his 2006 senior season.
