Pats Rookie OT Solder to start?

Solder only struggles against speed because he's really tall and plays too tall. But he's more than athletic enough to deal with speed once he gets seasoning. His real weakness, in my view, is against strength. He doesn't play with a great base and has a weak and undeveloped core. When you combine this with the fact that he plays too tall, he's really susceptible to being rocked back by leverage players. Fortunately for us, Wake has a great bullrush and in other great news (for us) that's also Misi's best pass rush move and the last good one Jason Taylor has left in the tank. Three guys with good bullrushes you can send out against a 6'8 tackle who plays with poor leverage? Sign me up for that.

It's a good matchup for us, it really is. Good enough it will force the Patriots into predictable pass protection schemes (limiting the effectiveness of a player like Gronkowski, for example, who'll be called in to block on pass plays more often, or forcing a player with limited upside as a pass receiver but who's a better blocker like Green-Ellis into the game, tipping us off and keeping their better pass receiving backs on the bench) which we should be able to exploit with overload blitzes to the opposite side.

(I'm working on a "keys to the game" type thread where I'll go more into all of this).

Would be nice for some turnovers by our defense...

We need to get out of the bottom 5 to +/-...

...and then we took Yeatman. lol

Sounds good but how many times have you seen a player, specifically on the patriots, show up and play big time. I don't want to hear Jon Gruden saying, "Look at Nate Soldier, holding more than his own against Cameron Wake and company. A rookie, coming in here with no OTAs and a short offseason, and dominating one of the best pass rushers in football. Man that guy really is a Soldier."

I think Cam is better than that, and it won't be like that. But that kind of crap has to stop if we plan to be successful. And its not just the position, or that team, or this player, but a combo and hearing crap like that all the time.

yeah i imagine the pats will leave matt light on an island on the left side and let him go against misi and jason taylor one on one...i think light will win those matchups...i really like wake's chances against solder but like magoo said i i expect a lot of help from gronkowski and the protection to be rolled to the right side...

if i'm belichick i like the odds that light can handle taylor or misi one on one and i'm gonna do whatever possible to ensure cam wake doesn't beat me...

the more we see of gronkowski staying in to help block, the better is is for us. We have enough trouble handling one TE.. and he killed us last year. 2 TE.... god help us.

i don't think tight ends at least with our ilbs are gonna do the kind of damage to us this year they did last year...but i'm sure beli is gonna design ways this week to attack our safeties with hernandez...and i don't like our odds there

Matt Light vs Jason Taylor is like two old folks having a drag race with wheel chairs...

The Patriots will probably open up with a short passing game to get comfortable and then try to open it up after they can evaluate their protections. If the struggle against our rush, it will mean lots of draws, screens and slants. I expect to see lots of carries and receptions by Woodhead, and Green.
If they handle our rush effectively, they will start taking their shots down field to the WR's and TE.

and then we took Yeatman...a guy the Fins and 31 other teams decided to pass over every round on draft day... undrafted free agent .that'll cripple their franchise,,,,lol
