What are your thoughts about Daunte Culpepper's skills? I do not have video equipment to break down game film, but Daunte looks like the same type of quarterback as Jake Plummer. Good on the run, can throw the deep ball, but may not have the ability to stand in the pocket, go through his receiver options, make the correct decision and then deliver an accurate ball. I am hoping that this will be his Achilles' heel as the Patriots will need to contend with him 5-10 years by the looks of things.
Dan Adner, Scottsdale, Ariz.

My perception of Culpepper is that accuracy isn't his strong suit. Then I checked his career completion percentage -- 64.4 percent -- and it matched up quite well with my choices for current elite quarterbacks: Tom Brady (61.9), Peyton Manning (63.9). I'm anxious to see more of Culpepper myself to see if these numbers might not tell the whole story

They also predict 12 wins for the Patsies, get this, because they have a SOFT Schedule... I hope that bites them where the sun doesn't shine. That sounds like bulletin board material if I ever heard it.

You keep touching on this theme of people being down on the Patriots. SI's Peter King has them in the SB against Dallas and a group at ESPN have them in the Super Bowl against Carolina. My guess is that 95 percent of the preseason predictions have them winning the East, the majority of them having them in the AFC title game, at least. Anyone who thinks their run is over is not paying attention. Destroyed by injuries, they righted the ship enough to be one or two plays from hosting the AFC title game last year. You're not going to win it every year and to go as far as they did in an off year is still an indication of success, not failure.
Jim Veneau, New York City

It was former Patriots quarterback Jim Miller, now working for SIRIUS radio's NFL channel, who noted that he's heard callers to his show speak of the Patriots' run being over. My opinion: With what appears to be a favorable schedule, a potentially dynamic offense, and Tom Brady leading the way, 12 wins wouldn't surprise me.

My first thought on that is: You cannot judge a schedule until the season is over. It might look easy now but it can turn out to be the most difficult once the postseason arrives.

Sounds like the Patriots fans may be a little nervous about us having a legit franchise QB. We almost swept them last year with an inaccurate QB in Gus Frerrote.

very moot point

edit: i too, never felt accuracy was daunte's strong point. even after seeing his stats posted EVERYWHERE on this board, i still dont believe he is more accurate than peyton manning. we'll see, but its definately something we should be looking out for.

I don't think we need Daunte to be more accurate (although his career completion % would suggest otherwise) than Peyton Manning, he is more accurate than Gus Frerrote, Jay Fiedler, A.J. Feeley, Ray Lucas, Brian Griese, Damon Huard, Sage Rosenfels, Cade McNown, Josh Heupel, Scott Zolak and John Dutton. Therefore, he gives us potentially our best chance at a great passing game since Dan was in his prime.

And seeing the videos of Culpepper, I don't see many receivers having to make fantastic catches. His deep ball is very accurate.

i am not discussing whether he NEEDS to be more accurate than peyton, but does it seem like he is? thats where im kinda iffy?

im not posting against/for daunte in any way here, im just a bit curious why his % is so high when he doesnt seem THAT accurate.

Good question. I've heard the "Daunte is innacurate" thing before too. But the numbers don't lie. Maybe one thing that could account for that is that Daunte sometimes starts out cold and then gets hot and gets into a rhythm.

You don't have to be the best QB in the league to win a SB. Trent Dilfer. But you do have to fit in the offence. Tom Brady.

Tom Brady isn't an elite QB. He is perfect for his offence. And that's what you have to be. He had a good core of players and coaching staff around him. Most of that coaching staff is gone and so are a lot of his WR and OL. It won't be the same Patsies we have been seeing for the last 5 or 6 years. But make no mistake about it. They always have and always will be a tough team under Belichick.

As long as Daunte fits our system I feel we stand a great chance for a run on the SB. Brady went to and won 1 in his first year as a starter. Why not Daunte?

Brady not elite?

Look, first off I am a loyal fins fan. Having said that how can you possibly say that Tom Brady is not an elite QB? He's accurate, money in the clutch, and the most winning QB since Joe Montana. You've got to give credit where credit is due mate...:dolphins:

I believe that this is the same things people were saying about Brady before last year, then he went out and threw for over 4000 yrds again and without Wies...I was of your opinion before last season, but after losing Weis, I also thought that his weaknesses would be exposed....but it hasn't happen yet... I still have to say, as much as it pains me being a fins fan, that until they are beaten and out of the playoffs, and until Brady has no more time on the season clock to make something happen....you get the idea....

"How do you deal with Dom and Daunte?"

From this morning's Boston Globe pats article:

Patriots need answers to these five questions

5. How do you deal with Dom and Daunte?
Perhaps the biggest problem looms in Miami, where Belichick disciple Nick Saban has the Dolphins back in contention. They won their final six games of 2005 and traded for former Pro Bowl quarterback Daunte Culpepper. Culpepper is coming off a terrible season and a worse knee injury but two years ago he produced 5,123 yards of total offense and 41 touchdowns.

The Dolphins also hired former Texans coach Dom Capers as defensive coordinator. The last time Capers was fired as a head coach, he built a defense in Jacksonville that went to the AFC Championship game. These are changes the Patriots can't do anything about so they need to find answers to the first four questions. If they do, the fifth will take care of itself.

This is the only part of the write up about us, but for those who want the link:
