Paul Soliai article

No way this guy is going to be at the designated weight in 3 weeks for TC

Hopefully he gets his $hit together. He is like a wall in the middle who could anchor our d-line in the 3-4 for years. Only problem is he cant seem to keep his head on straight. Hopefully he's not a wasted talent

I read that article a few days ago. If only he can put it together.
Entering his third season, Soliai, who was suspended twice in 2008 for violating team rules, realizes his size and draft status can take him only so far, and that it's time for his work ethic to start carrying him now.

"My rookie year I wasn't productive in what I was doing. I wasn't ready. Last year I was, but there's still another level to take it to, and that's my goal," said Soliai, who has seven tackles and a forced fumble in the 23 games.

"I'm more experienced with the nose [tackle spot] now. I played three technique in college, and I know a lot more than I did in my rookie year. Now it's about putting all that I know and all that I learned on the field with some technique."

Soliai said his focus in 2009 is to "practice like I'm playing in the game."
and this quote by D-line coach Kacy Rogers shows how unique Soliai is.
"He's very unique because I've never had a guy that big, that strong and that athletic. Some of the things you watch, it's like 'how did he do that,'" defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers said. "He's just got to keep coming. He's got to really decide what he wants to be as a football player."

Why not...he did it last year and he feels he do it again this year. The problem is, he shouldn't have to every year. The time he spends losing weight is the time he could be spending working on getting better at his profession.

No he didnt do it last year, and he was suspended for it too.

Soliai reached his target weight before training camp. It was not keeping his weight under control that possibly got him suspended twice last season. If he had not reached his target weight he would have been released just like another player who's name escapes at the moment.

OT Julius Wilson was the player who came in overweight and was released the same day.

He obviously didnt learn from his suspensions, as he was overweight at OTA's again.

Never been very enthused with this guy as a football player. He looks the part but I dont ever see him being a good starter

yeah, to hear rogers say that about the guy should certainly be some positive reinforcement and influence for the man. we really need someone to step up at the nose for us this season, i love ferg but age catches up to everyone. sometimes it catches up real fast, ferg could really fall off this season, i hope not and i'm not saying it'll happen but it could and we need someone to be there if it does. if soliai or one of the others can spell ferguson it'll help trememdouly

He always talks about having to be committed to being a professional football player? Losing weight? I wish he would just step up and do it already. That talk about all the potential and then Rogers says he has to really stay on him. Sparano questioning whether he is serious about being a professional.

Sorry folks that's a problem.

I think back though and remember chuckling when Soliai was worried about the Dolphins bringing in potential NT's and possibly drafting one.

It appears to me that he is running scared and possibly avoiding the obvious.

I don't see PS doing much. He just doesn't seem to have the right mind set.

I do want to see what this Louis Ellis brings to the table. Seems to have a great motor, but is raw. Can't wait to see him in pads. Reminds me of a bigger John Randle.

Tony McDaniel will be the next DT...wait and see...
If only we used DT than he would be a nice size but we have a NT and you cant get the leverage you need being 6 foot 7.

I seem to be one of the few who thinks that Paul can play. We treat him like he is a 7 year vet who has floated around. He is headed into his 3rd year, I hope the light bulb comes on he is exactly what we need
