honestly I think everyone is kinda counting this guy out..
He is a physically talented guy going into his 3rd year after showing how much of a knuckle head he can be and also showing what he can bring the field. I think he gets major playing time year and shows what can of player he can really be.. or maybe im just hoping..

No, you're not just hoping. He played very good and got a lot of penetration. The staff obviously thinks highly of him to stick with him and give him the chances they gave him. When I went and saw the games again via TiVo, I noticed how impressive Soliai was.

The reason I have us taking a NT in the draft, is not to replace Soliai, but to eventually replace Ferguson, who is getting old.

A team needs a starter and a backup. You need two young NTs for the future, not just one.

Everybody talks about Samson, Beck and Ginn . . . but Paul's emergence may make him the most critical player from that 2007 draft. If he were to become a dominate NT, that would be HUGE.

But regardless, you need him and somebody else, and whether that is Joe Cohen or a draft pick later on, u need to figure out that NT position this season.

He definitely has the talent and potential, if he didn't he would have been gone.

Painfully I have to say you are hoping. I don't see it with this kid. 2 years and minimal impact. IF he wasn't 350+lbs he wouldn't be on the roster. They guy was suspended twice! I'm not sure there is a light that can get turned on.

You are just hoping. As far as I remember he has had only 1 big play, and that was against the Rams...he has shown very little. I believe we have become used to mediocre players, and any little sign gives us hope of something better. NOT ANY MORE. We need someone to replace Ferguson and add depth. Solai can be the third stringer...that is all he will ever be IMO.

i know its just one play, but that strip in the ravens game was a big time play in a big time game. if he can get his head and his butt on the same page he could be very good. i say we give him more time but dont just settle on him. lets get another nose.

I agree with you to the extent that I think we need to draft a NT.
However, Solai has potential & can be developed over the course of next season. You need to rotate these guys & Ferguson is on the down side of his NFL experience & Holiday very expensive.

I think there is sufficient room & time for the acquisition & development of two young NT's.:hi5:

Based on who will be available in the draft...Look for Peria Jerry as our possible #1. We could make him an NT as he has room to bulk up.

Look for Soliai to be traded to GB.

GB is switching to the 3-4 this year and they have no prototypical NT. One of their DT's can make the switch and they may draft Raji if he is available but the safe move would be to acquire a guy like Soliai in the offseason.

GB also lacks a traditional pass rushing OLB.

Soliai has had some discipline problems in Miami and has actually been suspended a couple of games. It is probably better that he move on.

As far his value goes I think he looked good at the end of last season and this years market for NT's is sky high. I think we could get a lot more for
him than most people think.

Who's out there?? Gabe Watson; he didn't play in a 3-4.
Raji; He had a hard time staying academically eligible.
Peria; too small
Brace; Not ready for prime time, overrated

Soliai could look awful good to a team hungry for d-linemen.

I wouldn't mind giving Cohen a shot. I have read good things about him and the NT crop in the 2010 draft is filled with quality players and probably at least a couple elite prospects. Ndamukong Suh(a monster, but a smart one).

Every NT should be able to get penetration on the Center. The question is can he still hold up when he gets doubled (seems like everyplay from my personal experience at NT) and make a play.

That is what decides how good of a Nt you are. A NT needs to be a beast of a man who can tear apart double teams easily and ought to be tripled to get a good run up the middle.

But they don't come along often.

My hero is Jamal Williams of the San Diego Chargers. He is so clutch in those 3rd/4th and Goals at the 3 or less.

Domination should be the mantra of every NT.

At 6-4, 344 pounds, he has the perfect frame to be a NT. He has some work issues and that showed his rookie year and the fact that he was suspended by the team twice this past season. He also doesn't light up the stat sheet, but he was definitely a factor for this defense. This coaching staff obviously sees something in him if they are willing to keep him around after violating team rules twice.

He is definitely someone to keep an eye on this upcoming season.

Soliai will not be traded this year because the NT position in the lynchpin to the Dolphins defense. If you have followed Fergusons history prior to becoming a Dolphins last year he was injured while at Dallas. Ferg had a great year last year and stayed healthy. That was quite an accomplishment but kind of like playing Russian roulette and you can bet that Parcells and Co know that. So until we can find a good NT Solai goes nowhere and look for us pick someone in Fa or the draft for that position. Ferg was the 1st major pickup last year by Parcells and Co for a big reason!

we need another NT on the roster, one that will compete or take over when Ferguson retires after this season..
I would take Brace with the 2b pick but nothing before, since he's a early 3rd round prospect. He'll be reached for heavily, maybe by Green Bay with the 40th pick... Unless they miss Raji at #9..
We aren't trading Soliai, he has a 50% shot to be the NT of the future. If he lights that fire this year, he can be dominant.. He's been 360 before, so the guys fram is enormous. IMO Soliai is better than Brace, he reaped many benefits from BJ Raji's domination.. We could get green beys 3rd or 4th rounder for Soliai, in that case you might have to consider your options. They draft 9th in each round, so high value for the round. I would take an early-mid 3rd round pick for Soliai, but not much more.. We need him on the roster, and we really need him to play his best ball next season. He'll realize how to use his size, he's got the frame to be a top NT.. and He'll get paid ALOT if he can play hardcore. Soliai is solid, i want him on the team, and i hope he succeeds.
