The Miami Dolphins benched veteran Mario Williams last week.

This week, they’re considering dressing the former first overall draft pick, who has never appeared in a playoff game, at Pittsburgh on Sunday.

“It’s in consideration,” defensive coordinator Vance Joseph said Thursday. “We want all healthy bodies up. You’re in Week 18. Lots of guys are beat up. The healthier bodies that have been ready to go, they have to go and help us win.”

What’s interesting is that Williams has suggested he hasn’t been healthy all year.

Anyhow, all agree Williams has been a disappointing free-agent signing. Williams has 1.5 sacks and 13 tackles in 13 games, including 5 starts.

Dolphins coach Adam Gase said he played Terrence Fede over Williams last Sunday because Fede was playing well and contributing on special teams.

“It’s nothing against Mario,” Gase said.

The Dolphins tried earlier in the season to motivate Williams, 31, by calling him out publicly and reducing his playing time, but it didn’t work. Williams appears unmotivated but he might also just be a physical shell of his former Pro Bowl self.

Williams is not expected to see the second year of his Dolphins contract (two years, $17 million) and so surely he wants a chance to play on Sunday at Pittsburgh.

Your thoughts? :ponder:

If the playoffs dont get him motivated, I dont know what will.

This is the first ive heard about health issues, but if he is healthy and motivated, watch out!

Keep him on the bench. If he doesn't want to put in the effort on the feild why should he be rewarded playing in the playoffs. Fede will give you better play anyways

Just announced that Jason Jones has been released. WOW.

Good luck with Williams being motivated
He's already been told he's not coming back and will be a free agent
Do you think he's going to go all out risking an injury knowing his future isn't here?

Diddly squat is what we'll get out of Williams

Naw if he plays poorly he is done BUT a monster game from him would be huge for his future.

I don't think there's anything he can do at this point. He's been completely ineffective even when playing his old team. Heart isn't in it and it shows on the field. One of the more disappointing FA NFL signings this year.
