After two games of calling playing into the headset of quarterback Matt Moore, coach Adam Gase and his signal-caller are developing comfort, trust and rhythm.

“Every game that we go we learn something different about each other, as far as what either I need to remind him, or his communication to me of something he didn’t like or he does like,” Gase said Wednesday. “The good thing about having a guy that’s been around for some time is that he’s not going to be shy about anything. He’s going to tell you exactly what he thinks and he’s always going to be prepared. I never have to worry about anything with the game plan.”

Moore has 6 touchdowns, 2 interceptions and a passer rating of 113.4, which would be higher than every quarterback in the NFL except Matt Ryan of the Atlanta Falcons. Tom Brady and Dak Prescott would sit right behind him.

If Moore starts Miami’s playoff game at Pittsburgh or Houston, he will benefit greatly from these three starts.

“Obviously experience in this league is hard to come by, so any time you can get live reps, it’s only going to make you better,” Moore said. “You’re going to learn from it. Things are going to go bad and you learn from those, and then things are going to go well and you learn from that too. These reps are extremely valuable.”

Moore is averaging 9.74 yards per attempt, which is typical of his aggressive nature. That number would put him first in the NFL, just ahead of Ryan.

Moore rebounded from a tough first half at Buffalo to make key plays in the fourth quarter and overtime. He said the overtime defeat of the Bills was one of the wildest games he’s played in.

“I was just trying to stay focused and calm,” Moore said. “I wasn’t trying to get too high or too low, knowing that we were going to have a chance and we needed to be mentally ready to go out and execute.”

I hate when they use his rankings as some merit to where he'd rank if he was ranked. Moore wouldn't have those numbers with equal starts as those guys.

Still, he's playing great ball.

Moore's final drive in regulation on Saturday was his best work so far this season. Really amazing how poised he was in that situation with the crowd the way it was and no timeouts. No matter what, not sure there are many backup quarterbacks who save us vs. Arizona after the shock of Ryan going down and then go on the road and win those 2 games.

Think both him and Gase are gonna have fun on this ride . . . and there is no pressure to do wrong here. House money baby!

One major reason why Moore is having so much success, beside his QB acumen, is that Gase - a quarterbacks' coach - is calling schemes that favor the Matt's strengths above all. You will not see many run-option plays as long as Moore is behind center since his (Moore) comfort zone is passing from the pocket, mostly.

That's my angle for what it's worth.

If someone like Gase had gotten hold of Moore in his Carolina days, it's not outside the realm of possibility that by this point he's be a middle of the road starter, despite his limitations. I mean, look at the stud Gase is turning Tannehill into in less than a season!

I think this is absolutely true. Without a guy like Gase, and playing on some bad teams he's still posted a slightly better than .500 win %.

Moore is not skittish and he runs the offense really well. These guys come out of the huddle with a bounce, and that tells me they are confident in Matt.

he did not look good imo Saturday in the first half missing throws & that horrible INT before the half & i didn't like the 3rd down throw in OT in the middle of the field where we had to punt. He is lucky Ajayi had the kind of game he had.

Parker had a great YAC & so did Damien Williams (a cut back from him actually worked)

Yeah moore has no zip on the ball and struggles on comeback routes. Im worried he is do to throw an int to the house on a weak throw to the outside

Nothing but love for Matt Moore from me. The guy has been THE consummate professional since he got to Miami. Happy to see him playing well and succeeding

Moore works if Ajayi works. His deep ball and aggressiveness is the perfect complement if the opposing defense is going to make a commitment to stopping Jay. If it weren't for our damn injury plagued and weak run defense, we'd have the perfect formula for a deep playoff run.
