Good Report... I like some of your interesting comments such as:
You get the sense Culpepper knows this is his time to win over his teammates, and he’s making an effort in doing so. Pumping fists after successful plays. High-fiving offensive linemen during drills. Talking to teammates on the sideline. :cooldude:
The two guys that unexpectedly grabbed my attention: Wide receivers Frank Murphy and Marcus Vick. I’m not saying either guy is a lock – or even a long shot -- for a roster spot. But both players consistently made the most of their opportunities, catching nearly every pass thrown their way. After a generally unimpressive rookie minicamp, Vick looked far more like a pro this weekend. His route-running ability looked natural, and his hands were fine. Now, the big test comes when he puts on pads. Can Vick still manage to get open when he has large defenders jamming him up? A roster spot depends on it….
I like the off-season moves made by the Dolphins along the offensive line. Seth McKinney did a solid job at center last season, but it was always easy to sense Rex Hadnot might be a natural fit for the position. That’s exactly what we saw this weekend. Hadnot playing center, McKinney playing guard. Coach Nick Saban said they are only in the experimental stages of the switch, but I expect it to stick. And even McKinney, who seemed a bit more irritated last training camp when Hadnot was given time at center, seemed ok with it this time around. McKinney can be a solid guard, and Hadnot has all the intangibles – he’s vocal, he’s smart and he talented – to play center. Also, L.J. Shelton looked good playing left tackle. The team is deep at the position now, with Damion McIntosh and Mike Pearson competing for a backup job. But I would expect the starting line to include (from left to right): Shelton, Jeno James, Hadnot, McKinney, Vernon Carey. Not a bad unit, in my opinion…. :cooldude:
Get ready for big things from Ronnie Brown. Seriously, this guy did not mess around this off-season. Believe it or not, he looks even bigger than before – and even faster. Brown clearly added a few pounds of muscle in the off-season, and I’m convinced he knows there’s some added pressure for him to stay healthy in the absence of Ricky Williams. Brown had a nice rookie season, but I think he’s capable of much, much more. I’ve talked to several former NFL running backs who talk about how different a player sees the field from his rookie season to his second year, and I believe that will be the case with Brown, too. He’s big. He’s fast. And as long as he can stay healthy, he’s going to be one bad man…. :cooldude:
