he Dolphins caught plenty of breaks in their win over San Diego, but this wasn’t one of them.
This was pure skill by Ryan Tannehill and Damien Williams, and brilliant play calling by Adam Gase. Take a look at what came together for Williams’ 18-yard touchdown catch late in the third quarter:
With the Dolphins down 17-14, they ran into a third-and-two at the San Diego 18-yard line. Gase had them break the huddle with three receivers and Williams, who immediately lined up wide left against linebacker Kyle Emanuel:
This is a textbook Jarvis Landry situation, and the Chargers are on it. Trevor Williams moves up to stay on Landry:
Linebacker Christopher Landrum is tracking Landry, too, and the double team he draws is vital to Williams getting a one-on-one matchup with Emanuel:
Tannehill lets it fly almost immediately, and Williams is already even with Emanuel in their footrace to the ball:
