For the last two weeks, the Miami Dolphins have played undrafted rookie wide receiver Rashawn Scott from Miami over third-rounder Leonte Carroo from Rutgers.

“I know everybody will look and say, ‘Draft pick over an undrafted guy,’ but I really don’t care about that,” Dolphins coach Adam Gase said this week. “I care about guys competing and trying to do it right and seeing if guys can contribute.”

Carroo has said he needs to be better on special teams. He has also conceded he needed to step up his attention to detail and preparation from how he approached things earlier in the season.

Dolphins assistant head coach and special teams coach Darren Rizzi said there is a new culture where no player can just expect he’ll be dressing each week.

“I love the fact that you have a bunch of guys fighting for the 45th and 46th spot on game day, because it creates a competitive environment in practice,” Rizzi said. “We practice harder, and it creates a better situation for the game. I’m pleased with where we are right now. I know Carroo is disappointed that he has been inactive the last couple of weeks, but hopefully he continues to get better and practice harder and keep fighting for that spot.”

Gase said the team is looking for players on the “back half of the roster” the team can “trust.”

“We’re trying to find as many guys as we can to (where) we trust them and they can do the right thing,” Gase said. “This week will be a different week, and we’ll see what the inactives (are), what we do with that.”

Neither Gase nor Rizzi was excluding the possiblity Carroo could dress for Sunday’s playoff game at Pittsburgh.

Carroo has size (6-feet-1, 217 pounds) and speed and strength. But he has admitted to a learning curve in the NFL, especially in learning all the responsibilities of three different receiver positions.

Only most of us dont even see him as a 3rd round pick. When you consider what we traded to get him, he may as well be a 1st or early 2nd round pick. The FO thought he was worth 3 players, players that we sorely need on D.

I'm rooting for him, but damn. Get your **** straight.

As a side note, that's a nod to Scott's work ethic, keep up the good work!

It sucks that they gave up what they did, but be real. A late 3rd and 4th round pick, most likely compensatory at that, along with a 6th. In what world is that anywhere close to a 1st or early 2nd?

Wow, interesting. Was rooting for Carroo but if he still has his head up his ass after all this time, IDK what to think now.

I remember reading that the Pats were very, very high on him and if that's true, I wouldn't count out that was the reason we went up for him.

This kid needs polish..
Its going ontake him awhile..
He cant use his size like he used to and he slow on a nfl fied. Time to adjust carroo

Haven't heard any of that. What the article aluded to was he is making mistakes and needs to learn the playbook.

I love it. Doesnt matter what we traded to get him and all that, get the 53 out there that will help us win. missing a draft pick happens (not that carroo is a miss yet), but glad our coach does not let it hold him hostage.
