Don't you guys think we should be taking a shot at how many penalties we've been commiting on offense? False starts and so-forth? OK, I know we're looking ahead to next week, but if we didn't commit that penalty on the first play of last weeks game against the jets when they fumbled twice in the same play, I feel we would have done better, set a much stronger tone for the game.
...comments...questions.....snide remarks?

the penalties killed us and has been my biggest concern...the line has been tweaked a couple times already maybe with some time or another tweak or 2 we can cut those stupid penalties out and give ourselves a better chance to win instead of shhoting ourselves in the foot

snide remarks? there was a thread on this earlier

comment? i think there will be a reduction of penalties. i dont think we will see taylor get an offside call on him and i dont think our WRs will get flagged for false starts or illegal formation

my prediction is 7 instead of 12, with most coming from the o-line being jumpy against peppers and rucker

I know penalties have been an issue, but rather than jump to conclusions I thought a better look was needed. The following are the breakdowns per player on penalties, you may be surprised. Broncos/Jets

Offense
  • Total for two games - 11, Broncos/Jets
  • By player - Carey 1/1, McDougal 0/1, Hadnot 1/1, McKinney 0/1, Boston 0/1, Chambers 1/0, Welker 0/1, Booker 0/1, Diamond 0/1
  • 6 of 11 on offensive line. In all honesty probably not as many as you thought.
Defense
  • Total for two games - 13 with 4 declined, Broncos/Jets
  • By player - JT 3/1 1-D, Roth 1/1, Crowder 1/1, Glen 0/1, Seau 0/1 1-D, Shulters 0/1, Howard 1/1 2-D
  • Rookies playing aggressive, JT with mental errors, and Howard struggling with technique.
Saban's goal is 1 penalty per 15 plays, right now we are at 1 per 30 plays. Obviously a better job needs to be done. By breaking it down it's clear to see it's a team issue and not really the fault of one unit or player.

I think that the player who comitts the penalty should run one lap per yard of penality. If they hate running laps as much as I do, penalities will all but be eliminated....

I like your thinking

It's actually 1 per 30 plays, and now we are at 1 per 15 plays..

Check the threads....been talked about a lot...I just can't believe that Saban hasn't gone off on someone on the sideline after one of these stupid penalties...

Whenever there's a change in coaching staffs like the change the Dolphins went through from last year to this, some time is required to 'undo' habits, good or bad, established by the previous regime.

There's no doubt in my mind, Saban will correct the lack of focus causing these penalties in due time.

miami offensive penalties - 21 - 157yds average - 7.5 overall 4th most in nfl
miami defensive penalties - 12 - 113yds average - 9.4 overall 24.

i agree we have 2 many on offense but b realistic about defense. penalties are givn for anything. e.g the lance shulters pass interfearence was a load of bull

I guess he saves it for practice.
:D

I agree with fear-the -d. The Shulters call was one of the biggest horsemanure calls of all time. He wasn't early and if he was it was by less than a hair and you don't hand a team a long first down over such a tickey tack infraction, or noninfraction as I prefer to call it. The ball was uncatchable anyway but the laundry flew and it was a very huge momentum changer. If we were able to get a stop coming out of the gate that would have been so key but the zebras wouldn't allow it. There were way too many flags in the game both ways. Call it looser, let them play. That guy Winters had way too much screen time.

Yeah penalties have been killing us, Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if the same **** happens again. I do expect improvement.
